1982 Honda GL 1100 Innerstate Gold Wing Questions & Answers
My 1992 goldwing headlights go on when it is shut off but don't come on after i start it what could it be relay? if so where is it?
Your headlight relay is connected improperly. It could even be the wrong relay is installed. Most relays have a low power (low amperage) switch connected as the control. If the switch is energized, it causes a magnet to pull a much bigger switch inside the relay. That big switch usually has three connections. One "common" and on that is connected to common when there is no power to the control input (known as "normally closed" or NC) and one that connects to common when there is power connected to the control input (normally open or NO).
The name indicates the condition when no power is on the control connector of the relay
It it is by guess that the NC and NO connections are crossed.
Need to replace the stator
I would highly recommend that you get a service manual, I like Clymers (next to a factory one) they are much cheaper and are very accurate. Once you remove the stator you will need to reset the timing, and valve lash to properly set the bike back up. Good Luck Vern
The rear brake light does
Test the switch at the rear pedal. I had to move it in a few threads on my wing. Also check out the bulb and socket (my gasket wore out and it had moisture inside the housing. Last of all it might be an open wire in the harness running under the seat.
How do you adjust the rear brakes on a 1982
There is no adjustment other than pedal height , which is adjusted at the master cylinder by loosening the lock nut and turning the stud that pushes on the piston. If the the brake is sticking , take the master cylinder apart and make sure the brake fluid feeder(big hole) and the fluid return hole(pin hole) are both clear. Also make sure the caliper is clean and floating back and forth. That is so one brake pad does not wear out faster than the other.
1982 GL100 Interstate Tachometer quit working is
There could be a fuse,Just check them all. Also these models have some contact issues with the harness,Inside your fake gas tank there are several wire connectors,(disconnect the battery before open them up) clean them to remove corrosion & treat with dielectric grease to protect them from loosing contact.Hook it all back up and see if it will work for you again.(thats what it took for mine)
Gas in the oil
????
what engine are you talking about ?
sounds like the floats are stuck in the carb and have flooded the engine, strip and clean the carb (s) out, change the oil and then try to restart bike.
LED Lights wont work
if the turn signal worked before try to change the wires to the led, make sure the positive is on the correct wire to the led.(switch them)
Also make sure fuse to turn signal is still good.
Battery
put it in and start it up, its fine.
Battery voltage starts to increase when battery is

Overheating
chances are that your water pump could be bad or thermostat could be stuck closed if you can locate the thermostat housing warm the motor up and see if the hose's on both sides of the thermostat housing are warm if it is it most likely the water pump and youll want to keep a 70/30 mixture of water and antifreeze it the radiator when filling their should be a air bleed screw some where on the cooling system to bleed any air out of cooling system while your filling it
