First thing always is charge the battery. The top of the battery reads the proper amperage, and motorcycle stores will push their trickle chargers, or battery tenders, which won't actually charge it. Please make sure you disconnect the battery before you charge it.

Some units can be rebuilt with new seals and others you replace the whole shock. On the ones that can be rebuilt you may need other parts other than the seals like cleaner and new fork ( shock oil. Your dealer can give you a eatimate on the phone or you can look at website sales companies like bikebandit.com or cheapcycleparts.com and look at the breakdown of your machine to see what parts are being sold and how much they cost. Replaceing shocks is one thing and rebuilding them is another. if you've never built a motorcycle or car sturt before this is not a job to teach yourself from a book. Making mistakes can cause the bike to drive badly and crash. Have somone who's done this kind of work before help you, or hire the work done. Make sure the rebuilt or replaced fork works smoothly and what ever you do to one side do it the same way to the other. It might work OK at low speeds and surprise you at high speed and resulting in a crash. Be carful or find a pro to help you or do it for you.

Remove the shield saddle. Remove the inner shield. Working on both sides, unscrew and remove the six screws (1) and the two screws (2).
