Hi, Anonymous the answer to this question is way above my pay grade for this situation, I would call or visit my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry.

Check the tach to see if it is grounded out internally. Also check for wires that may be bare and grounding out in the circuit.

  • 1 Fill the fluid reservoir and lightly tap the line, lever and reservoir to free any air bubbles trapped in the fluid. Keep the fluid reservoir filled to prevent air from entering the line.
  • 2 Pump the clutch lever three to four times, then hold it in.
  • 3 Open the fluid fitting on the slave cylinder a half turn. A small amount of clutch fluid should appear
  • 4 Close the fitting before the fluid stops moving and release the clutch lever.
  • 5 Repeat Steps 2 to 4 until the fluid's color is consistent and without air bubbles. Fill the fluid reservoir as needed.

Tip: If you don't want to make a mess, slip a clear hose over the end of the bleeder so you can catch the fluid.

    I hope this helps.

Don't mean to sound patronizing but have you charged the new battery fully as per the instructions? Do the dash lights come on?

Hi, Mike before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. Finally, most tail light wiring harnesses run under the rear fender held in place by spot welded clips. Worn out rear shocks or lowered suspension can bottom out causing the rear tire to come in contact with the wiring harness, rubbing the insulation off, exposing the bare metal inner core, allowing it to break or short out.

i assume you mean you run it with the choke closed?? if so i would think some carb passages are blocked and not flowing fuel correctly. either really clean the carb passages or just simply replace the carb

ya gotta ask yourself WHY do I want to do that?
Even if it is possible, it is a giant leap backwards.
I will guess that it is not possible unless you want to build the parts required. But it may still not be possible.

your crank case oil lubricates all of your internals including your clutch pack! if your crankcase oil is full and you clutch doesn't work still drain you oil and remove the right side crankcase cover that is where your clutch pack resides remove the clutch basket and check the clutch pack plates for ware they may need replacement! Empty your gas tank and start with fresh gas good chance your carburetors are gummed up from stale gas which will make it run rough and usually loose the ability to idle! as for your font brake check to make sure the master cylinder for it is topped up with fluid is so try bleeding it if after bleeding the brakes no improvement is noticed remove the front brake assembly pull the pads off and check to see if there is any movement in the calipers themselves they may have seized from sitting! and there is no honda virago, virago is a yamaha and i think if u have an 82 xv its a yamaha virago
