It may be the air filter - try running the engine with it removed to see if it is too dirty to allow enough air into the carburetor The carburetor may have varnish deposits clogging jets / interfering with mechanical operation. Clean the carburetor thoroughly with Gum Out or similar spray type cleaner as per the directions on the container. Spray any carburetor linkage on the outside, too.Replacing or cleaning the spark plug may improve running too. Try disassembling and cleaning the carburetor. Inspect the in take manifold gasket for leaks, rips, tears, separation, etc. and inspect the reeds for possible damage. Change the spark plug and the spark plug cap. You can purchase an NGK spark plug cap for about $5, if the resister goes bad you can get an intermittent spark. Lastly, replace the fuel in the tank just in case it is old or a bad batch of gas, so it does not cause the problem to resurface.

Go with 10w40 motor oil. No special additives, no synthetics.

If its blowing oil out the exhaust then that is most likely where your smoke is coming from, not from running rich.

This is a highly ill - eagle act to do. In the old days we would put an electric drill on the drive cable, but now they make them tamper proof so they only go one way. The bezels are crimped on so you can't get inside them. I expect modern one may be electronic. How will your insurance company know what mileage you have done? I have never known an insurance cancel or fine due to mileage. You should have just disconnected it when you got close to the limit. Buy a used one and use them for 6 months in turns. Make sure the fuel is getting to the valve and passing through it. Possible blockage in fuel line or in the tank.
