Kill switch in the "run" position? Transmission in "N"? Clutch lever pulled in? Side stand in the stored position? Check all these things.

You will need to remove and replace it...this happens often on these bikes, the throttle gets sticky after a while too...Look closely at how they are routed, most often heat causes them to melt, stick & break...they can be insulated and rerouted to avoid this problem.
