My 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 gas is overflowing Thur the. Carburetor and out of the jets and into the crankcase

You probably have a stuck or maladjusted float in the carburetor.

2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 classic has a fuel leak from the carburetor

More than likely you have a bad fuel petcock. No fuel should go from tank to carb without the engine running because the fuel is pulled by vacuum. Remove line from petcock an have it set to on or reserve position and if fuel comes out it is bad, and let's the fuel continue to flow to the carb and seep into the engine oil also. Mine was bad and had my oil thin as water with all the gas in it. Wonder it didn't wash a bearing out of the engine. Check and drain oil immediately if the petcock is bad.

I had the oil changed and a new air filter put on

Yes, its the needle and seat (in the bottom of the carbs) that controls the flow of gas into the carburetor, when they get ANY dirt (of any kind) between the needle and the seat..this does not allow the flow to shut off completely. This fills the float bowl until it over flows out the needle jet/pilot jet and it runs into the cylinders and back into the air box/air filter. Your fuel system needs cleaning (NOT WITH ANY ADDITIVE) - actual disassembly and cleaning..INCLUDING the carburetors and add a fuel filter to the fuel line between the tank and the carbs..

My 2000 Vulcan 800 Classic has gas in air filter

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your posted description indicates a carb overflow and that the carbs require a pulldown, disassembly; soaking in carb cleaner, cleaning the jets, vents, holes, ports and the walls of the bowl and inner body for the varnish like gunk of old/stale gasoline specially the fuel inlet valve.

As fuel is fed to the carbs,  the floats in the carb's bowl would rise up and engage the inlet cutoff valve closing the inlet port and therefore no further fuel would flow in. Fuel overflow would then indicate possibly that:
  • the valves are not closing;
  • their is an obstruction along the inlet ports and blocks closing of the valves;
  • floats are stuck open or punctured;
  • the float height would require adjustments;
  • necking, ridges, grooves, scratches exist on either the valve or the port allowing fuel entry even if closed.
All of the above would require a pulldown of the carbs for inspection, further cleaning or applicable repairs/rebuilt as initially described.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

2000 800B. While trying to break the nut on the front sprocket, should the sprocket move with the nut?

Of course. The bolt is in the middle of the splined shaft and holds the sprocket as well. Some have a hole where you insert a rod to lock the sprocket, or you can put the bike in 1st Gear and give the breaker bar a sharp tap with a lump hammer. Or you can jam the chain somewhere back by the back sprocket, for instance putting a ratchet strap through the rear forks and the wheel, or you can get someone to apply the rear brake.

Why a 1994 vulcan 500 starter spins but wont engage ?

There is a starter clutch which has a gear and a one-way Spragg. The starter gear should engage the gear inside the case; the Spragg ensures that the gear will engage with the starter is turning in a specific direction, but free wheels when the engine is running. If the gear inside the case is engaging the starter, the Spragg may be broken. In that case you will need to replace the one way Spragg. Replacing the Spragg is a major PITA!

I have a 2000 vulcan

Belt tension would normally be adjusted at the rear wheel the same as a chain, if it is within spec though I would suggest you check the alignment as the belt may be pushing against the lip of the sprocket.
