The speedometer is not repairable. You simply replace it. There are places that specialize in "restorations" of speedometers but they mostly work on original equipment speedometers for collector's grade restorations and are VERY expensive. It's cheaper to simply replace the speedo. You may want to record the mileage on the bike and you'll probably have to note on the title that the mileage shown on the new speedo is not correct when you sell the bike.

may be electrical from harness at speedo to Variable speed sensor or VSS bad. On right side in top of transmission behind clutch cable cover. Just a little bit back and to the left there should be a med. size wire going down into a fitting that has a bolt holding in the VSS.

Know this is an old thread but there is misinformation in that answer. Harleys were dual fire up through the Evos. Once the twin cam came out in 99 they were single fire so it DOES make a difference how it's wired.

They should be on the inside, between the motor and pipe on the front and between the oil bag and pipe on the rear exhaust pipe, where it's hardest to find

Hi, Please ensure that the battery does not need to be replaced or that there haven't been too many energy-consuming accessories added to your motorcycle that are overwhelming the battery when being used. If so, try removing a few accessories and starting the motorcycle again. Thank you.

Question edited for FULL maker and model name. Question moved to correct category. When you disconnected the battery, all the information stored in the ECU was lost. It has to learn everything again. The fault light was transient, it came on and went off. You only need to worry if it stays on.

No such fuse. If speedo is all that is not working, chances are the gearbox sensor has failed.
