2001 Volvo V70 xc fan works but ac nor the heater or defroster will come on.
no car owned ever saved me money for 50 years.
why not diagnose it first and worry cost last. find the truth first
some failures are each to fix. HVAC topic cars.
well all you can do is 2 things.
- check fuses.
- get it scanned. many shops/stores do it for free.
blower (fan) WORKS BUT CONTROLS DEAD. TO HVAC
ask dad for help? or brother, or uncle??????

blower spins but does it push(blow) air to any vents (MODES)?
blower works but fails on heater and cold to all vents or just some.
if the heater work and cold air fails on all vents
that can be A/C failure under the hood or the controls are stuck in heater mode.
there are many tests to find out if problem is in the dash or under the hood; , lots of tests.
the cause can be just a loose wire, or vastly more complex a evap core blown. (just did mine last week)$$$$$$$

ALL CARS MADE, FOR SURE LAST 20 YEAR.
HAVE FULL SERVICE MANUAL THAT COVER ALL THAT AND 1ZILLION MORE TOPICS. ALL DO
older cars too, but are weaker before manuals were in digital form.

ours USA is. 2.5L L5 engine and 2.4L
has x6---- O-RINGS here.
in, inch/lbs, Divide by 12 to get foot/lbs
a diagram what? a VC?
not sure what that means , and all that is in the SM service manual.
CAN I ASSUME, you need all 10 steps in the manual told to you?>
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Remove intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold removal and installation.
- Remove spark plugs from:
- Cylinders 1 and 5-5-cylinder engine
- Cylinders 2 and 5-6-cylinder engine
- Install two camshaft cover press tools 999 5454 into the vacated spark plug holes. Ensure that the bolt in the spark plug well is fully tightened 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
- Remove Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid.
- Leave a 0.079-0.118 inch (2-3mm) gap to the camshaft cover when installing the press tools 999 5454
- Remove all bolts securing the camshaft cover to cylinder head.
- Use pliers 999 5670 to lift camshaft cover from cylinder head.
- Install pliers at the stop lugs. Start with cylinder 1 and work alternately backwards.
- Slacken off the wing nuts approximately 2 turns.

- Repeat the procedure working toward rear of engine.
- Carefully press out the front and rear camshaft seals.
- Remove the two press tools 999 5454 from spark plug holes.
- Remove the camshaft cover.

the install is more complex , including sealants.
and
tighten the bolts in sequence from the center and outwards to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
and
- Install:
- Variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid. Use a new gasket. Tighten center bolt to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm), center plug to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
- Spark plugs and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
- Intake Manifold, refer to Intake Manifold removal and installation

AC inconsistency with a Volvo S40 2008
that is called a leak.and most be diagnosed and cured by a tech.in short.do not overfill the R134 or it fails.1:dash blower works! and at engine compressor clutch pulls in,! or not? must pull in. (AC max)2:.dampers and all actuators in evap casing work proper'3:.dye check loop, no leaks! (bingof fails)?4: evacuate the R134a. (capture) #3 fails.5: replace bad parts,6: vacuum pump down hard for 30 minutes7:.add new R134a by weight.(per car spec)and test the system.8:do mot ever put leak block junk or wreck the expansion valve you will. ' dye is ok but not that nasty leak block ever.takes skills and tools to work the list, a UV flash lite finds the UV Dye leaks. easy. if step 1 fails clutch dead, do not run the compressor until static low side pressure(LS) is good. or corrected. per spec]the hi/low switch trips dead the clutch if too low, (or high)r134a, do not overfill it !!!hot wiring hi/low that is risky , lacking skills.PPE< no bull)wear eye protection , high side pressure leaks can blind you.
