I have a 2001 chevy camaro 3.8l v6 my car starts but idles rough like around 1000 rpms and i can drive it but when i go and step on the gas it bogs down and doesnt go over like 3000 or 3500 rpms and when i slow down to turn the car shuts off the rpms drop down and the car shuts off i dont know whats causing it.

Having a qualified repair shop do diagnostic's is probably what you should do , rather then replacing a bunch of parts that are not needed . Testing fuel pressure an flow , engine managment sensor input's to the PCM - engine computer . Do you know what a professional scanner is ? mass air flow sensor data , fuel trims ,short an long term , are the O2 sensor's switching normally ,

Have someone do a back pressure test on you catalytic converter. I had the same problem and it turned out that my converter was almost completely plugged. I was also getting a check engine light indicating a misfire on cylinder 4. Once the converter was replaced, the problems went away.

if you are not the original owner then the previous owner may have set the idle high, if you take off the throttle body there should be a little screw that will set the idle by keeping the intake valve open more if you unscrew it then the idle rpm will lower

This make/model has a chronic problem with EGR clogging. If you have a dashboard indicator showing "check engine" most likely it is a trouble code indicating and EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) valve problem. Symptoms are rough idle, and surging and stalls.

What happens is sediments from the exaust manifold get sucked up into the valve when it opens, then stick in the valve and keep it from closing. When the valve is open when it should be closed, the engine runs very rough.

I removed my egr and then dislodged the sediment (pea-sized debris) and then re-installed the valve. Three days later, the same "check engine" and same rough idle. I must have did this at least three or four more times.

What I found that gave me a permanent solution was an aftermarket filter gasket that keeps debris from clogging. I don't remember the name of the product, but a search for "EGR filter gasket" may lead you to the product.

Install the gasket between the EGR and the exhaust manifold and you should be good to go. Note: on 1995 and newer models, disconnecting the EGR from the wiring harness (common on R&R) may require the computer to be reprogramed.

1994 Chevrolet Camaro unstable idle

You could have a faulty Crankshaft sensor, when you went through the flood, the crankshaft sensor wire leads may have gotten damaged or the sensor it self and your going to need to replace it. The sensor sends signal to the ECM which will control your fuel and and timing to each cylinder. Start with that and the sensor is located on the passenger side on the harmonic balance and you can pick on up at Auto Zone, Part Source ad they will have the step by step instructions for you to replace the sensor. 1992 toyota camry v6 le boggs down on acceleration

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Your car should normally idle at about 700-750 RPM. You said that yours was at about 1000-1500, that is waaay to high. If you have a leak somewhere in the system the car will draw in extra air and it will want to idle much higher and will also be very erratic and hard to drive.

I have a 1992 camaro at idle its ok . In gear low rpm rough runin

I worked on one of these the other day and what fixed the same problem it sounds like is I changed out the distributor cap and rotor. the rotor can be a pain to get off. and also don't cross any plug wires take one off at a time and put it on the new one.
