Question about 1991 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

The gas gage on my 1991 Jeep wrangler 2.5 4L stays on empty. When I took it to mechanic to have fixed, they ordered a new fuel sending unit. when it arrived, it did not match up with the existing fuel assembly- the mechanic said that the sending unit came with a circular/round top piece that did not match up with the square shaped existed fuel assembly. the dealer stated that in 1991 there were problems with the assembly and Jeep changed it so my only choice was to change EVERYTHING, from fuel pump to fuel sending unit and had to be ordered from dealer. Has anyone else encountered this? I have a 15 gal tank. It looks like the 1990 fuel sending units are rectangular or square in shape but don't know if these would work in a 1991 wrangler. HELP!

Check out ebay and see if you can get the part there. U can also check your local junkie for a good, used working part.

SOURCE: 2002 jeep wrangler oil pressure gauge drops

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!

It could be the pump but you need to verify if you can hear the pump running after it stalls and you turn the key back on to try and start it. If you don't hear it it isn't running.
The pump is inside the tank but it dosen't come inside, you need to put it in there. That requires removing the tank. On a 90, there is a filter mounted on the chassis near the left rear tire. I'd replace that first as if you replace the pump, that should be replaced as well and if it's plugged up it may in fact be the only problem.

SOURCE: gas is not getting from gas tank to Carburator ..

Make sure you have the lines attached correctly on the sending unit and make sure there no small holes in the line. The pump pulls fuel and will draw in air. To make sure the pump is good, attach the tank side to a container of fuel and see if the engine starts. (keep the container below the pump or it can start a siphon and appear to be OK when it's not)
If the repair to the sender involved soldering up a line leak, make sure the line is not still leaking and that the line has not filled with solder.
It's a really simple system...there are no "trick" items there. If everything is intact and the pump is good, it has to work!!!

The petrol gage is not working how do I fix that it is a Chevrolet captiva ltz 4x4 2008 model

Unfortunately, it's usually the sending unit that's gone bad, it's inside the gas tank.
Very few vehicles have an opening in the floor directly above the gas tank to pull the sending unit and pump. Usually you have to jack up the vehicle and drop the gas (petrol) tank.
The replacement part is cheap and a mechanic should be able to do the repair for a decent price. They have to remove most of the petrol before removing the tank so I would get the tank close to empty before bringing it in. (I know, without a gage it's hard to guess)

Gas gauge reading wrong

One of two things: either the gage itself is malfuntioning or the float/sending unit in the gas tank is failing. Disconnect the plug at the tank for the sending unit, pick up a new sending unit and attach it to the plug without taking the old unit out of the tank. Then operate the float up and down on the new sending unit. If the gas gage reads correctly when the float is all the way up (full) and all the way down (empty) the old sending unit is probably bad and should be replaced. If there is no difference when you connect the new sending unit, the gage is probably bad. Then you can return the new sending unit (as long as the auto parts store allows returns of electrical parts) and buy a new gage. Install the new gage and...happy motoring.

Gas gauge doesn't work

Hello
The no. 1 cause of the gas gage not reading or reading incorrectly is that the sending unit for the gas gage inside the gas tank is defective, this is esp true on older cars and trucks, In order to replace the gas gage sending unit requires the gas tank be removed.

Why can i only fit 13 gallons in my 19 gallon gas tank on my 2002 jeep wrangler sport 4.0

You can usually only get about 18 gallons in a 19 gallon tank and you likely have 4 gallons left in it when the gauge reads empty

1998 jeep wrangler se gas gage

Most gauges are set up this way to give you a bit of "margin" between "e" and stuck on the road.Sometimes this is set a bit too high but adjusting it is not worth the $. Additionally, there is generally about a gallon of fuel remaining in tank that the pump cannot reach. This protects you against most heavy debris (rust etc) and water that acumulates there (even in the most well maintained vehicles) which would otherwise easily enter the fuel system. As long as you are not running out at 1/4 tank or anything, you are OK.

Auto repair

My jeep when empty still has 6 gallons approx left with the light on, i assume the sending unit took a ****, or the float is messed up. As the 2 people above i would say the method to fix your problems is having the sending unit replaced. Which means taking the fuel tank down and replacing the sending unit which housed the fuel pump and the float/line. Not cheap.
