2001 vw cabrio automatic transmission

I just purchased a 2001 VW Cabrio with automatic transmission. It worked fine when I test drove it, I was in business area, so a lot of stop and go, I did find a long straight away and the car preformed fine. After driving a couple of hundred miles it has developed a problem. After the car is driven 5 or 6 miles it developes a bump when it shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. Sometimes it is almost unnoticeable and then sometimes it is very hard bump. Sometimes it has a small bump when down shifting when coming to a stop. It does not do it all the time, sometime it shifts thru the gears perfect. I know VW Cabrio have alot of trouble with their automatic transmissions, is this one going bad or is it something that can be corrected with out getting a second mortgage on my house? The car only has 77800 miles on it and is in excellent condition.

Took it to the VW dealership and paid to have the computer tell me what was wrong, they did tell me it was not a trany problem. Not a whole lot of help, they said it was low on transmission fluid, how do you loose fluid with a sealed transmission? The trany problem seems to be fixed for now, we'll see. Replaced MAF but my check engine light is still on, dealership trying to tell me it's the trottle body causing the problem, this has nothing to do with the emissions system. HELP

I'm dealing with the same car. I just had the transmission completely overhauled. Very$$$. The mechanic told me that it's common for cabrio's to develop this problem between 80,000 and 100,000 miles, mine happened around 95,000 miles. Knowing what I know now, I would have sold it.

I had the same problem with the auto transmission also, just keep driving it and it eventually went away.  It had a sealed transmission and they wanted a fortune.  I just decided to drive it into the ground.  I did change all the vacuum lines but nothing seemed to help.  One day got into it and it stopped.  It has about 165000 now and still plugging along.
The check engine light, if it is the throttle body just get some carb cleaner and a lint free rag and wipe it out.  Take the air hose off, wipe it out (open the throttle with the mechanism on the side don't try to move the butterfly by had) and spray the hinges ever so slightly with the carb cleaner and then get the OBD reset at an auto parts place (sometimes auto zone will do them).

What coolant is used in a 2001 vw cabrio? the

It has to be "phosphate free", and should say so on the label. It may come in a few different colors, but probably not green.

How do you check transmition fluid in a 2001 volkswegn cabrio

They are a sealed transmission, no level check available. You will need to take it to a trans specialist or maybe even the VW dealer if there is a trans issue.

2001 Cabby domelight

vwvortex.com

honestly, its the best place to find parts for cabbys...

good luck.
you can always call the dealer or another vw shop and see if they can order one, but I suggest vortex.
its a messageboard, so you have to find the vw classifieds, and then cabrio.
