Is the check engine light coming on?Crankshaft position sensor will set a dtc for this if there is any issues with it.My recommendation would be to save yourself time money and stress and have reputable shop near you connect a scan tool to it and retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes,if any from ecu.Knowing these codes,if any, will get you in rt direction. This car is also known to have ignition switch problems.which will give you the exact symptoms your describing also.Car will start up but as soon as you release key to normal run position engine dies.Try this when car starts up instead of letting go of key to release fully back to normal run postion hold key and stop it just short of normal run position and hold it there see if car stays running.

2003 dodge ram 4.7 got code p0172 already changed crank sensor cuz thats what auto zone told me truck starts but has small backfire at first turn of key, no lights on at all but doesnt have any

172 isn't a crank code. it is an O2 sensor code, bank one senor one. An exhaust leak at the manifold or flange will pop an O2 code. But if you let it go on for to long, it can and will clog up the catalytic converter/s.

Crank sensor location

If the timing chain fails, the engine will not have compression.
A faulty crank sensor should set a trouble code in the computer.

Will a cam shaft senor keep my car from cranking when u cut it off I've changed both crank senor on it an it still want crank with out puting some quick start spray n it its a 2002 Buick century

when you say crank ,,, that means engine does not turn over when you turn the key to start position ,,,, as you said you use start spray this means engine is turning over ,,,,, i think you mean engine turns over but wont start,,,,,,, cam sensor will cause engine to be slower to start but you would be better to get the car plugged in to see what the fault codes are in the system ,,, also if no codes the data list of the engine sensors will show up a faulty sensor ,,, to be honest there is no point in spending your hard earned cash putting in sensors until you carry out a diagnostic check and only have to change the faulty sensor that shows up...best of luck

It cranks but it won't start. I got a new battery, cam position senor and crank position sensor. took out the ignition control was told that was still good.

Check for spark at the plug wires to spark plugs, no spark on anything, then suspect a fouled job replacing the cam position sensor.

98 wrangler shuts off and won't start intermittently. Codes are P1594, 0320, 0463 & 1391. Do I change the crank senor, cam sensor or fuel filter/regulator??

(this is for others who may be viewing this problem)
P1594 = charging system voltage is too high
P0320 = crankshaft position sensor (CKP)/engine speed (RPM) sensor-circuit malfunction
P0463 = fuel level sensor circuit, high output
P1391 = intermittent loss of CMP (camshaft position) or CKP (crank position) sensor

Probably start with changing the crank sensor. But keep in mind that the high charging system voltage may be causing the other electrical sensor problems. The voltage regulator (probably located internally in the alternator) is not regulating voltage properly. So changing the alternator may be needed as well. Price the parts and start with replacing the less expensive first.

You say you changed the cam sensor. A1391 code is a crank sensor on the top of the trans. bell housing.

1995 jeep cranks over a LONG time before it will finally start

sounds like yor car is in limp home mode. Funny name I know but its true. You may have lost your cam sensor so it went it this mode. A car won't start with out a crank senor but it will with out a cam sensor it just takes a few revolutions of the engine. Find your cam sensor and replace it hope this helps you
