I have a 2002 Toyota Echo. It has 205000 miles on it and I have noticed a popping sound when I am driving on the highway at 55-65mph. I was told that I need to run 90 or higher octane fuel in it because it sounds like it is a detonation problem. The only thing is, that I have also been told that you should be able to use regular fuel in it. HELP Please

SOURCE: Rattling noise when the car idles in drive/reverse position or...

predetonation, called ping can result from poor quality fuel, and high outside air temperature,it happens at lower speeds under load. a rattle could also be from the heat shield around the catalytic converter,it would buzz more if you wer idling and turned up the fan,the fan pulls quite a bit of current, and tha a/c will load the engine a bit.

Engine sound when speeding up

the problem you are describing sounds like you have a loose rod bearing which is common on a engine with that many miles on it and under excelleration yes!! it will knock with it knocking to that degree for any lenght of time! putting new bearing in won;t fix it!! cause damage to the cracnshaft has already arose you will need to pull the motor and change the crank and bearings or replace the motor

How can I to change or regulate the RPMs in my toyota echo 2001. After a clean in the iac valve the RPMs of engine were changed in idle acceleration I hear that the engine is more accelerate that before of...

Idle is controlled through the on board computer and is not adjustable, however after u cleaned the system you need to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then let the system relearn the idle speed, this takes about 30 miles of driving a combination of city and highway.

Blue low engine coolant temperture indicator light is on

I also recently bought a 2002. According to the owner's manual the blue light does not indicate a problem unless it stays on after the car warms up. If you have an automatic it will not shift into fourth gear until the coolant warms up at which time the light should go off. Have only had the car for a week and notice the blue light goes off after a mile or two of driving in temperatures in the teens to 30's. I don't know how much outside temp affects it.

2001 Toyota Echo Fuel consumption

EPA mileage figures are estimates, and seldom does it have anything to do with the real world, My new car is rated at 19 city and 28 hiway, it gets 22 MPG max. The only thing you can do is make sure the pressure in the tires is correct and run the recommened oil, keep the car in good running order.
