That white cloud is caused by a blown head gasket, the knocking noise could be, a rod bearing, thrust bearing, somewhere in the valve train. Replace the head gasket and see if it still knocks, and change the oil and filter too. If it still knocks, than you have bigger problems.

never had that problem with my GS400 but on my 95 maxima, i used to have that same high pitch squealing noise... i used some belt dressing that i got from R & S Strauss for a few dollars and sprayed it on my belts and pulleys that ran around the alternator, compressor, etc. and never heard the noise again. hope your problem is as simple and cheap to fix as mine was

Sounds like bad injectors, bad O2 sensors, and or too much fuel psi. Check the fuel psi against what the service manual says. If the fuel psi is too high, your regulator is bad. If the fuel psi checks out ok, you likely have a bad O2 or bad fuel injector(s).

It sounds to me like you have a head gasket leaking. See if you can get a gauge and check each cylinder. Are you using alot of anti freeze?
