2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTION

I recently experienced losing the ability to manually lock and unlock my driver's side front door. The door, up until yesterday was able to be locked and unlocked with the remote keyless entry transmitter. Now, I have to physically turn the key in the door lock tumbler, which is the only way I am able to enter the vehicle. The inside locking lever does not appear to be opening to it's fullest capacity. After exiting the vehicle, I at that point can relock the vehicle using the keyless entry remote. It appears something is binding up the lever and is to say the least annoying. How difficult a repair is it? And, could anyone offer the proper procedure? I am on a fixed income and I feel if I take it to the dealer, I'm in for refinancing my home to pay the repair bill. Thanks.

do your power doorlocks work normally?

if the driver's door is the only door that isnt power locking, the actuator may be failing.

There is a "bar" that attaches to the lock like a lever pulling and pushing the door. Over many years and hundreds of unlockings it breaks from the plastic...I am in the same boat. It won't cost that much....take it to the dealer..the part is around $13.00 to replace

Electronic lock/unlock not working

Apparently the "LOCK" function is working normally because the burglar alarm is being activated when you 'lock' the car. Is this right?
The fact the engine won't start when the burglar alarm is activated is NORMAL If the doors will not UNLOCK front the driver's door manual switch, I believe you have a bad DOOR UNLOCK relay in the control module.

Auto Door Locks

Automatic door locks on the 2001 Sonata doesn't exist. The doors are locked manually (by the driver) or by using the Keless Remote. To answer your question, YES, there is a separate relay for each function .. this means there is a relay which LOCKS the doors, and there is a separate relay which UNLOCKS the doors. They are located side-by-side on the I/P junction box (I/P = Instrument Panel).
They are both labeled "Lock", but one "UNLOCKS" while the other one 'LOCKS'.

2001 Hyundai Elantra door locking problem

there is a short or a signal from the un-locking switch that is triggering your locks.

you have a switch manually to lock and un-lock your doors, the unlocking circuit is making contact.

you can try playing with your switch to un-short the switch or open it up ang check it.
