Have a compression test done and make sure the head gasket is OK before doing anything else.

SOURCE: Fuel Filter in Freelander (replacing)

The fuel filter is located below the electrics box, half way between the battery and the bulkhead on the passenger side, under the bonnet. It is very difficult to see how it all fits, but it has a central screw which holds the plastic filter housing/mounting in place. Find this screw (which is a small self tapper) and be prepared to loose it, or use a magnetic screw driver. Then lift the plastic housing up and away, (towards the engine) be ready with loads of rags to catch the diesel fuel when you disconnect the pipes. There is an earth wire attached to the housing also. (anti interference, I think) It is quite a fiddle getting it back again, as it has two locating lugs on the back of the plastic housing/mounting.

Hi my freelander has got back pressure from water resevoir, i still have heating and heating doesnt move, sometimes water goes alltoger but dont know were it goin, i fill it back up in its back pressure n...

Hi If your freelander has the k series engine The most common problem is the head gasket.
Usually goes at 40,000 to 50,000 miles.
Also the gasket usually blows in such a way that the engine oil goes into the exspansion tank.
But firstly is there any water on the end of the dipstick ? ( it will look milky ).
These days most garages have a tester to see if head gasket is leaking consists of a special fluid
which changes colour when compression gases are in the coolant ( a sample of gas from coolant
tank is taken with a suction tool )
If you have no leaks anywhere, the gasket may be gone in a way that the coolant goes into the combustion chamber and out the exhaust ( usually you would get white smoke )
I hope i have been of some help to you,
John ( South Wales UK )

My coolant tank is empty. Can I check if there is coolant in the radiator itself? How?

No, Land Rover radiators do not have an access for checking the radiator itself. It is implied that if the reservoir is empty then the level of fluid is too low. It is best option to do a pressure test on the cooling system and see where the leak is, and repair it.

whats it doing overheating and pressurising the cooling system ,if it does then strip engine and fit a new version modified seal at the bottom of the cylinder liners ,its not difficult to do just time consuming ,or find a honda engine ,they look identical and fit that because they are the same
