2001 Ford 350 7.3 diesel. Turns over but will not start. Wait to start light will not come on. Checked fuses under hood. Had the 20A pcm fuse was blown. Replaced fuse and tried again. Wait to start light...

Inside of the fuel filter housing is a heating element, a fuel warmer. It is common for this element to break the spot welds of it's mounting plate and ground out against the housing, hence it blowing the fuse every time you try and warm up the glow-plugs. Take the top off of the fuel filter housing and remove the filter, then look into the bottom of the housing and see if the heater is touching the walls of the housing. If this is the problem you should be able to unplug the fuel heater and have the engine start until you get the heater replaced.

I have a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird that will not start

Needs to have at least 3o lbs of fuel pressure, may need to rent
a gauge from your local parts house.
Plus make sure all the ground wires are attached (bell housing
bolt is where the ECM ground is,I think)

My 2006 F250 died no restart!!

Do you have access to a scanner?
How did you check your FICM? Does it have 48 Volts?
If you have a scanner, does the computer show RPM? If not it could be the crank sensor.
Is the Crank Sensor and Camshaft Sensor in SYNC with one another?
When cranking does the desired IPC read at least 500PSI? The list goes on and on. Check to to see if the 30amp fuse for the fuel heater isn't blown. They are known to short out? Do you have fuel in the filter housing? The pump might have died. Unless you have a scanner, your at a stand still. Just don't start throwing parts on it.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
  2. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter as follows:
    • Install a hose on the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.
    • Place the other end of the hose into an approved container.
    • Drain as much fuel as possible from the fuel filter housing.
    • Tighten the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Water-in-fuel sensor in the fuel filter
NOTE Check the fuel filter/heater element housing and the filter for a dislocated filter seal or foreign debris. Contamination on the filter/heater housing may cause leakage at the fuel filter. Coat the seal with clean engine oil.

    • Fuel filter on the fuel filter/heater element housing
    • Water-in-fuel harness connector
    • Negative battery cables
  2. Prime the fuel system:
    • Pump the primer located on top of the fuel filter 30 times or until stiff.
    • Try to start and run the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat the previous step.
    • Allow the engine to run for 5 minutes at idle.
    • Check for fuel leaks and clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

I need to replace the fuel filter on my 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax Diesel 6.6L. Please tell me how to do it.

ITS A SPIN ON FILTER, YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE WATER SENSOR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FILTER, THEN USING A STRAP FILTER WRENCH LOOSEN THE FILTER AND SPIN IT OFF.

CHECK THE FILTER HOUSING TO BE SURE THE INNER FILTER SEAL ISN'T ON THE HOUSING AND CAME OFF WITH THE FILTER.

REMOVE THE WATER LEVEL SENSOR AND DISCARD THE SEAL.

INSTALL THE WATER LEVEL SENSOR ON THE NEW FILTER. USING A LITTLE GREASE ON THE INNER FILTER SEAL AND ON THE OUTER O-RING TO HOLD IT IN PLACE, SPIN ON THE NEW FILTER.

OPEN THE VENT ON THE UPPER SIDE OF THE FILTER HOUSING. PUSH DOWN ON THE HAND PUMP QUICKLY UNTIL THE FUEL IS COMING OUT OF THE VENT. CLOSE THE VENT AND PUMP THE FILTER PUMP UNTIL IT FEELS SOLID. AT THIS POINT START THE ENGINE. IF IT STALLS PUMP IT UP AGAIN AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IF YOU HAVE AN ASSISTANT THEY CAN PUMP THE FILTER PUMP WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND QUIT WHEN YOU FEEL THE ENGINE IS NOT GOING TO STALL. ABOUT 10 TO 15 SECONDS USUALLY WORKS.

CHECK FOR LEAKS.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE USE BRAKE WASH TO REMOVE THE FUEL SPILLED DURING THE FILTER REPLACEMENT. ALLOW IT TO DRY BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.

RATE ME PLEASE.
