[email protected] 1990 Dodge D150 pick-up idles fine when initially started but after driving a short distance the idle increases significantly to the point that I have to apply the brakes pretty hard when I come to a stop to keep it from moving.

I also have a 1990 D150. she had the same exact problem. There's a ( what the dealer calls ) throttle kicker solenoid that controls the idle. if your looking at the truck its on the right of the throttle body with a 4 pin connector and a bolt looking thing making contact to where your throttle cable hooks up too. unplug it and take it off. if your idle drops down like mine did that's your problem. its not retracting all the way. the part number at the dealer is 04288256 and its number 16 on their diagrams. the problem is that it costs 236 bucks for a new one since its now a vintage part, and if it gets cold where you live you need it. hope this helped you out.

My 1990 dodge power RAM v8 with a 318 runs good when its cold. But after running it for about 10min and restarting it cuts out when I push on the gas. Idles good and idles good when put in gear until I...

Start with the simple things first:
Make sure you have a clean air filter.
Change out your fuel filter.
Most of todays crappy gas is 10% alcohol and the weather is warming up.
Then if not: Sensors and computer chip upgrades may be the issue but start simple. If you have a good reliable tune up guy take it to him and have him run the diagnostics. Any lights or codes come up??

My 1990 dodge ram d150 idle wont drop below 1800 most of the time it staysat 2000, it will drop to @750 some times . Its a 5.2 with a 4 spd . any idea what it may be

I would check the idle air control valve. Also check for a sticking throttle cable or throttle plate in the throttle body.

1990 DODGE D150 WON'T START WHEN HOT

There is a temp. sensor on the exhaust manifold that I just switched out on car that done the same thing it would start when cold but once it was hot and you killed the car it would not start back. When this goes bad its throwing the wrong signal to the computer that it is too hot and allowing it not to crank. This sensor was on the left side of the engine if your facing the car from the front. Also It can be tested with a multimeter to see if it is bad.
