I recently purchased a 2001 AUDI TT Quattro Roadster and I also purchased a Bentley Service Manual for this car but I am not able to find a breakdown that helps me understand this problem. The wires for the wind deflector were unhooked at the switch and after hooking them up, the deflector starts to rise on the drivers side but not the passenger side so obviously, it hangs up and will not come up. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks. Raggsmillion @ [email protected]
Hi, it is the drive band for the deflector. There is a single motor behind the driver, this drive the two screws via a band. It i shard to see but when the roof is in the down position remove the trim and you can see both screws which raise the glass. The glass is seated within single metal bracket, if you feel follow the top of the screws you will find the band.
I had the same problem the glass would only raise on the drivers side then stop with acracking sound, which was the trim luckily, on inspection I found the drive band had worn away, so the motor ws only driving one side.
I hope this helps
So is there a way to purchase and install a new drive band? Or is there another solution?
Pull both seats as far forward as they go. Climb in behind the seats and reach over the windscreen panel. If you pull on the bottom of the panel, it should pop off. Now retract the convertible top and you can look to see if the belt is broken. Is so, drill out the rivets on the metal guard over the belt (pop them out). Remove the metal guard and change the belt. Be sure to remove all the debris from the previous belt. Get a riveter and rivets and put them back in. Test it and, if all is well, put things back together.
The belt part number is 8N7 862 997, costs about $143 from ECS Tuning.

My wind deflector was making an awful squeeking noise the last time I tried to raise it and then it stopped completely. Now, it is partially up and won't go up or down but I can hear a sound that is probably the motor when I engage the switch.
the belt is probably torn
