Not sure about your car, but on my Chrysler mini van the same problem happened. The problem was not the motor but the body control module. The unit had 2 relays, but the BCM actualy controls the unit. To replace the BCM was $450. I bypassed the problem by installing an on/off switch inside the car and activated the motor by by passing the BCM at the relay. That was 3 years ago, still works great. Your BCM may be the problem. Check the schematics of the relays and try doing the same.
If you don't have the manuals, your local library has online access to most service manuals that you would have to pay for. Many time you can get access to them through their website if you have a library card. If not, go the library and get full free access to all the major car service manuals for free!
the release at the bottom of hatch can be ---rusted normal in northeast --- linkage popped or broken --linkage clip popped or broken --- need to crawl into back and remove the plug [ lower center of rear hatch panel will need a long screw driver and light will see linkage and latch push down on linkage arm and push open hatch when opened you can remove the rear panel and assess the problem but lube the latch and upper window latch
I have run into this problem and i found that the switch that operates alarm and inside light is bad, the switch is located on the latch, the latch may need to be removed to replace the switch. some dealers do not sell just the switch, i have run into this problem where switch is not replaceable the complete latch needs to be replaced.
Another problem i have run into is the wiring going into the hatch breaks, the wiring from bendine due to door opening and closing breaks a wire or two due to bending , locate wiring coming into rear hatch and check each wire,
Two things happen. One the latch is already latched and therefore it's closed before the gate shut, When you try to close it you might notice that the door don't close all the way. This doe'snt have to be thwe case. the other thing that happens if the lock mechanism is working, You here it click? The latch is stuck as the opener is stuck. You might get lucky and spray the latch with Blaster or other rust buster type penatrant. Theres angles though the opening of the latch . Spray on several angles and repleatly close the door trying to vibrate the Penatrant into the stuck area. Looking at the latch use a screw driver to move the latch and see if you can cycle it though it's positions to see if you can latch and unlatch it with the tool and reopen by pullung the handle ( you may need to try ther inside handle too and even the remote openner if you have one. Ussaaaly you need to push the button twice to open the rear hatch so it may take a few trys and spraying to get it to come loose.. Some vehicals stay closed a long time and stuck is the way to think.. But if the door is used often the linkage inside the door mayh have come off the the latch is closed and the linkage doesn't open the laTCH AND THE THING MANAGED TO GET CLOSED WITHT THE DOOR OPEN.
I also have a 2004 GMC XUV. My gate would go down but not swing open. In trying to fix it, the gate then refused to go to the flat position.I have removed the cover plate on the gate and found the one of the
solenoids loose from its mounting. Resetting the computer by disconnecting both battery leads and holding them together for ten seconds worked to restore function to the gate going flat, but the swing still does not work. I believe it is a bad solenoid or motor for the bottem left latch pin.
the actuators have a white stem that sticks out of the bottom of them. if you push up on the ones on the driver side it will open the back hatch for you.
