My car sometimes sticks in gear 3 or 1 especially when i put too much gas. When that happens, I 'll have to pack by the road side swich off the engne and start all over again.Otherwise if I want to move without this problem, I'll have to drive it very tenderlly slow at first and then pick up speed gradually. Is this normal?(C200 Kompressor 2006 model)-Evans Lwambula-Zambia

After I drive for about 1 hour, the transmission drops into third gear. I had it checked out and the mechanic drained about a quart and half out. It ran fine for a couple weeks then began doing it again. Do you need to have the engine running to drain all the transmission fluid out. How do you know that it is all out since it seems to route to several places? The fluid is being pumped strong to the radiator connection. Also, the fluid seems to get awfully hot when it does this. After the engine sits for a couple hours it is fine for awhile then does it again.

Have you had any transmission services done yet? like a flush sounds like a sticking solenoid but very hard to say with out looking into it please rate -jeff

  • Anonymous Sep 01, 2008

you can bring it to a shop a have them use the transmission flush machine to exchange the fluid to the proper level thru the transmission cooler lines, make sure they use the appropriate mercedes transmission fluid you can rise or lower the amount of fluid in the tranny with the machine and it only puts back in what it takes out unless it needs more, also there is a dipstick special tool at the dealer they use to check the levels funny huh your car dosent come with a dipstick but they can charge you to check the levels? please rate -jeff

What is a tiptronic transmission?

A Tiptronic gearbox is almost an in-between of a manual and automatic car. It is basically an automatic gearbox that gives you the ability to change your gears manually. This allows you to have greater control than with an automatic and can be especially useful for going uphill. This is actually a fairly common feature in European cars and even some Japanese ones too. The difference between a Tiptronic gearbox and an automatic one is that Tiptronic ones have an option to switch out of its automatic mode so it will work like a manual car when you choose. Some newer models have safety features in places so it limits the speed of the car when it is in certain gears so it doesn't damage the car which is something to consider.

My 2004 Audi A6 tdi can only get up to 2nd gear in auto or tiptronic. Auto gearbox garage said it is the engine - VW/Audi garage said engine is ok. No fault codes or dash warnings. was on the motorway...

Is it not shifting into third gear (meaning you're at redline and the car won't shift), or is there not enough power to get the car going fast enough to warrant going into third gear? Have you checked to see if the car is in limp mode?

I have a 12/2000 grandure, it sticks in 3rd gear of the auto trans, but only when it has warmed up, u can reset it by stopping turning the ignition off and re starting, but only until it hits third gear...

Time for a gearbox oil change. As the oil gets older it breaks down and that means it heats up too quickly, meaning it will not allow the auto to change gears properly. As you have switched the engine off and restarted it tricks the ECU into thinking that the gearbox oil is cold until it reaches too high levels.

Change the oil soon as an auto box rebuild isn't cheap.

Hope this helps.

HOW CAN I FIX A GEARBOX OF AN AUTOMATIC NISSAN B14

Auto boxes are best left to professionals but there are some things you can do 1) check that the selector rod from beneath the gear shift to the gear selector on the side of the gear box is correctly adjusted, 2) make sure that the transmission oil is at the right level, new oil can be added via the dip stick tube. If you are adventurous and are able to remove the gearbox pan you might be to see evidence of the gear box damage, metal shavings etc. If you can remove the gearbox you may be able to replace a sheared splined input shaft (indicated by a an engine that is running but that will simply not engage gear). Anything repairs beyond this should be left to an expert or simply replace the gearbox

Transmission stays in first gear sometimes

Automatic gearboxes work on oil pressure and are pretty complicated. First port of call take it to have the gearbox oil replaced, otherwise have a professional look at it as most gearboxes are far too complicated to take apart yourself.

Tiptronic automatic gear box

At the bottom of the automatic gearbox (tiptronic) you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up. Tightening torque is 24 Nm. Please Rate my Response! Thanks!

98 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Auto-Tiptronic Transmission Problems

I own a 1999 Honda Prelude base model with a automatic sequential tiptronic trans. If your willing to try a couple of things you might get lucky a save your trans. If my suggestions doesn't help your trans
performance then it time to pull out the pocket book. Drain the trans
fluid. Flush the cooler. Remove the 2 solenoid right by the starter motor. Most likely the 2 metal screens are plugged up. Clean them up with parts cleaner. Then wire the solenoids to a battery so when you spray into them with the parts cleaner you can energize the solenoids while spraying cleaner into the 2 ports. The purpose of this is to free up anything that could be making the solenoids stick. Reassemble the
solenoids back onto the trans. Fill the trans with 3 Qts. of OEM Honda fluid. Run the gears through the gears. Then drain that fluid. Do this one more cycle. On the last fill pour a bootle of Lube Guard Additive to condtion the fluid. Good Luck

Prelude 2.2 vti W reg auto automatic tiptronic gearbox slipping

Hi there. Although the Dealer has changed the oil, did they do a 'Stall Test' whilst the gearbox was cold and again when at normal running temperture? If not, that's what they must do firstly. This will identify whether you have a slipping clutch/s. The Honda autobox also includes what is known as accumulators - these control how each clutch is engaged during acceleration. For example, if you are accelerating slighly/smoothly, you want each gear to be engaged gently and smoothly, whereas, when accelerating hard, you need the gear engaged quickly and hard to aviod clutch slippage. Thus, the fact that you are experiencing a hard engagement might mean that an accumulator/s is seized. If that's the case, it will mean that the autobox will need stripping, cleaning and be checked for worn components. Hope this helps, Scottech.
