I have a 1989 chevy tracker, the shift cable has been replaced now has one missing bolt to keep it in, car shifted gears no problems then the clutch had to be put to the floor to shift, then could not shift at all, replaced a bearing or something like that in the tranny because when the clutch was pushed it stuck and would not slide back, it still did not work so we replaced the clutch pedal and bracket, it worked like a charm for two days now it is back to going to the floor and will not shift into any gears at all, and trying to put it in reverse it grinds and will not go into gear. what else could be wrong.

SOURCE: tdi clutch pedal pushed all the way down but hard to shift gears

Check your clutch fluid level, sometimes a seperate reservoir (drivers side on firewall), some clutch systems take fluid from the brake system (check brake fluid). If thats ok then the clutch slave may be failing.
If the clutch fluid is low refill it and check for leaks (or just wait till the symptom comes back). If it's happens often then theres a leak in the line or the slave somewhere.

SOURCE: Mazda 626 - Hard to shift into gear.

With any vehicle that has a hydraulic clutch, a worn master cylinder or slave cylinder will give this very symptom. First step is to check the fluid in the resivor. If it is low, you will want to check for fluid bypassing the seals. Be sure to check under the rubber dust cover as fluid can collect there and not be readily visible. Also, if the fluid in the resivor is dark colored, it is an indication of the internal seals going bad and you will need to replace the cylinders.

Why wont my 1990 geo tracker will not go into gear

Has to be a clutch problem, either a sticky clutch plate out of adjustment,if it is a hydralic clutch it could be low on fluid or have air in line. If it has a clutch cable reduce the free travel at the clutch fork to 1/4 in. Travel.

I have a 1989 chevy geo tracker and ive had to replace the clutch and ive had nothing but problems with it not going into gear and now im told that it needs a new clutch arm and im told they dont carr

this is one of the most common failures , on track-kicks.
the cause is easy:
not replacing the cable at 100k or lubing it every 30k.
the acid test (created by me) is the 1 inch rule.
if the bell arm moves 1 inch (zero play) and the clutch fails to disengage then the clutch is bad.
if it does not move 1inch the cable system is bad.
easy huh?
see the full sad stories here. and cures. (suzuki stills sells the parts for a little while longer.. they are Chapter 11 here)

I was down shifting from 4th to 2nd and i heard a bang. i am unable to shift gears. i was told that there is a fork between the transmission and gear shifter that i sheared off. True??? If so is it on the...

There is a clutch fork and it's bolted to the transmission bell housing. It's what pushes on the clutch bearing, disengaging the transmission from the engine, which allows you to safely change gears. If it's broken, you will surely have to replace that clutch fork in order for you to do any gear shifting in the future.

91 Tracker wont shift out of first gear.

It sounds like you got an incomplete transmission. The shift shaft shoould have a cup at the end of it to put the shift lever into. I hope this helps.

Geo tracker wont shift after clutch and clutch cable replaced

this is common.
it is caused because NO ON ever changes the cable at 100k miles.
it then wears a groove inside the cable and jams where you cant see.
(got my car dirt cheap cuz no one could figure this out)

the next thing to happen (toss coin) is the fire wall cracks or the clutch pedal spline strips.
full story here,
http://www.kick-fix.com/tranny/clutch/clutch-on-kick.html

now you know the why , so now correct all the damaged caused by a $45 cable.

all parts are at suzuki , every single one.

You need to check the clutch hydraulics i.e. the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder for their function, even if its cable operated try to adjust it so as it opens the clutch fork a little more to allow the clutch plate to be free, thus easy selection of gears.
If this fails thn you will have to replace the pro-kit i.e. clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing.
Hope this helps!
