The chances are your brake light switch is faulty.the cruise control relies on one side of the switch.
the epc light will come on for this code but will need to be reset through diagnostics port.
hope this helps.
you can also check for codes through the diag port for exact diagnostics.

What does letters EPC mean when it lights up on dashboard

Usually EPC, means electronic pressure control. This is a solenoid inside the transmission. Very common replacement part. Being it is a VW, it could be some thing else. Have the codes read and repost.

What can I do to make the EPC light go off on my dashboard. I have no power and my turbo is not working on my 2002 VW Turbo S Beetle

First you have to scan for trouble codes (DTC), then you navigate using the codes where your problem or malfunction is located. Once it is isolated and repaired will erase the stored codes. You will recode it (new device handshake with ECM), do a setting to default.

If you just want the light off without doing the steps above.
  • Remove instrument cluster
  • Open to reveal where LED is located
  • Use black silicone caulking over the target LED
  • Let dry and replace cover housing
  • Install is reverse of removal
This will not fix your problem only hiding annoying light detection, although it would be dishonest when you sell your car with this fix, if not seriously illegal.

2002 Turbo VW Beetle

start by putting trans in nutral (with e brake on) than turn the key just short of turning on the ing press the brake andyou will need to grabe the shifter with the right hand and the key with the left hand now turn key just enough to move shifter slightly out of nutral right between nutral and drive it might a couple of trys but you will get it.
