About a year ago, the car started turning the radio or CD (sometimes one, sometimes the other) on by itself. There does not appear to be any pattern to whether or when this happens. Is this a known issue? I am happy to replace the radio but want to be sure that the problem is in the radio itself, not farther back in the electrical system. Thanks for your help.
I had problems with my tiburon gt when I first bought it. Radio would turn on randomly. I looked around though and found rings right above the shifter where he would set his coffee in the morning because his cups wouldn't fit. I bet they would spill now and then and ruined the radio. Simply replacing it should not cause a problem but if you have the radio out get a flashlight and take a look at the wires in the back. I had a friend whos radio would not turn off even with the key out. There was a vacuum line behind his player and it rubbed on some wires in the back and caused him to have a short. Also if you have the factory sub in the back you should still have use of it with a new head unit.
My factory radio was a bit buggy itself. However, I bought a new Pioneer 6.1" touchscreen, wired it up, and I have no problems with that. I'm sure you can find a factory replacement unit for a good price but you might as well upgrade.

the radio will switch from cd to radio or come on or off . hitting bumps seems to be the time when it happens .
I have an 03 Tib gt with the same problem. I also just paid 1150.00 to the dealer to replace the bcm. It fixed the blinkers but not the radio. It has error code 2 though. Keeps switching back and forth.
agreed...mine does the same. I need a new Head Unit. Sooooo annoying using tape adapter then having it switch back and forth after hitting a bump
Radiodoes not come on by itself but just slight distortion It also has an error code 2 with the cd it had worked with the error code designated but does not now. Makes a single chime sound when scrooling manually throug
