2001 pt-cruser,alternator removal,so mine was squealing like a pig, took the belts out, started the car with no belts to pi point the noise sure enough Alternator bearing was bad, so after disconnecting the battery, alternator power wire 10mm and the plug(thres a little red safety buttom you got to push for the plug to come out)the next thing is the axle 32mm for the axle nut, 19mm for the steering pinion (use bolt joint remover borrow it from the zone), the top 2 struts bolts once you got that loose now theres room for the axle to come out of the disk(i didn't remove the bottom bolt joint or brake assembly tap the center of the axle were the little indentation is to remove the axle once the axle is out of the disk you can move the disk forward to do this, now you can pry the axle from the transmission what out for the oil spills, axle out theres still no room to take the alternator out, what i did was remove the oil filter and the oil filter bracket 3 9/16 bolts the whole thing came out, plenty of room now to take the alternator out, like butter it only took 3 hours, axle is got to come out and the oil filter and th adaptor that goes in the oil pan,on my way to find a new alternator,it look overwhelming at first ,but is pretty straigth forward, im not a mechanic and if it seems to much for you, theres guys certified for the task or the dealer, but if this helps anyone save a little mula$$$$,it was my first PT-CRUSER ,wear your safety gogles, time to hug the kids with greasy hands,,hope this helps ,tools 32mm,15mm,9/16,1/2,21mm,bolt joint remover, small adaptor to hammer out axle from tire side, big flat screwdriver for the transmission side, think thats it good luck....

Battery light still on after replacing alternator in 2001 pt cruiser

Well the battery light means the battery is not being charged, but it could be a fuseable link or computer problem. Could even be a problem with the ignition switch.
You need to know if the alt is getting a signal and has batt voltage.

Pt cruiser charging problems

The Alternator is controlled by the voltage regulator, type is located inside the Powertrain control module, you guessed it the alternator is computer controlled. You will need the dealer to look into this before you waste anymore money on parts.

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. The battery light came

Is it a remanufactured alternator. It sounds like you either got a faulty alternator or a wire is hooked up incorectly to it. I would test the voltage on the new one to make sure it wasnt a lemon If you are sure the wires are hooked up correctly.
