I think you are on the right track. It sounds like you have a fuel flow problem and those are the two items that immediately come to mind. I would start with the filter and then move on to the fuel pump if there is no change.

Hook fuel gauge to the quick connect on the fuel rail.Your fuel pressure should be 55-61 psi with key and engine off.If the fuel pressure is good then take the mass air flow sensor off and clean it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner then wait 15 minutes to dry then reinstall.
