To me it sounds like you need to rebuild or replace the starter. If you have an experienced mechanic, disassembling the starter motor and cleaning everything real well will fix the problem... Also a starter rebuild kit is much more affordable than buying a new starter if you know someone willing to do the work. On several of my own cars I have simply disassembled, cleaned, and then reassembled the same parts. Success everytime with no trouble down the road. I wouldn't be suprised if you had an oil leak and the starter is really dirty.
Hi, this is usually caused by dead spots on the starter commutator. If whacking the starter with a hammer will make it work, you can be pretty sure that is the problem. If you aren't sure, have the starter tested at your local parts chain. If it works off the car, then I would check the rest of the starter circuit.
Hi Jewls711.. Any resolution on this. I have the same problem with my 2002 Axiom. We purchased it a year ago from a dealer with the existing problem and they stated it was the ignition switch. Problem is I'm not sure if its the electric part or the ignition lock cylinder. Would be great if its just the starter. Please let me know if you've corrected the problem.
Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities.
It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then
it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure
or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty
ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
