I have a 1996 Chevy Blazer 6 cylinder 4.3 Vortex engine. The check engine light has been on for a few weeks but it was running just fine. Until all of a sudden it wouldn't start last night. I had driven 38 miles to a few different places & everything was good. my last stop was McDonald's & it wouldn't start. It has power, you can hear the fuel pump click when you turn the key. It won't start without spraying ether into the carb. While driving it acts like it wants to stall if you let off the gas and it doesn't have the power it used to. I took it to Auto Zone to get the code for the check engine light & I was told I have a small emissions leak. I found a bad hose & replaced it but it didn't make a difference. A friend said that I need a fuel pump. Is that correct, and how do I know?

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.

Firing order for a 99 chevy S10 vortex 4.3

I think on the 1999 V6 the firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2. Stand with the engine pulleys and belts nearest to you. The cylinders are number as Odd and Even. The LEFT side is the EVEN numbers, (2-4-6). Number Two is nearest to you and Number 6 is furthest away from you. The RIGHT side is the ODD numbers, (1-3-5). Number One is nearest to you and number Five is furthest away from you.

Why my 1999 Chevy Blazer 4.3, engine starts, runs about 5 second, dies and then won't start, if you wait 10 minutes it starts and runs fine, this happens once every few weeks/months or twice in one da

You may be having an intermittent failure with the fuel pressure regulator - checking the fuel pressure when the truck won't start may pinpoint this problem. If the pressure looks OK, this same problem can be caused by the ignition system as well (ignition coil or control module).

98 Chevy Blazer 6 cylinder. Just replaced timing chain, ran good for 30min. died in middle of road. Towed it back and opened it up again, timing chain was fine. Put it back together and started it up, ran...

This sounds like a fuel starvation issue.
Is the engine running smoothly? Have you checked the injectors? What warning lights are on the dashboard?
Running the engine at idle, put some injector cleaner through the system. The only other reason could be a faulty engine sensor of some kind.

98 chevy blazer only 3 cylinders firing...

Well, If you located a dead cylinder, have you decided if the problem on that cylinder is spark--fuel--compression? If you have good spark, check fuel pressure. If you have that spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems.

1996 chevy blazer engine light is on but the truck run just fine?

Typically there would be a different light that would come on if the oil pressure is too low so that would make me think that they aren't related.  Either way, I would definitely fill the oil level back to the recommended level and take the vehicle to your local auto parts store and have them check the code.  If it is the oil, have them reset the code and just keep and eye on you oil level every week.  If it is not, write down what the code is and get back on here to see what we can do to help you out.  Good luck!
