No voltage to the fuel pump to prime the system around 9 volts when cracking motor i do have spark

  • Chicubs90 Dec 02, 2008

Pretty ,much the same thing is happening with mine. The only difference is that I have voltage sometimes, but when I try to start the car (with a new pump) it won't fire except when I introduce starter fluid or carb cleaner which tells me thats it's a fuel problem not spark. I disconected the hose from the fuel filter on the engine side of it and then tried to turn over the engine and no fuel even tried to come out of the filter so I have a complete shut off electrical problem. I am going to checkl the relay and fuses but as of now I don't know where it's at. Please let me know if you discover anything on this issue.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I have the EXACT same problem, ive done an induction service and just put in a new fuel pump, but no where in the manual or on the car does it tell me where the fuse or relay is. If someone knows where its at I can fix this stupid $5 problem in a minute.

Furl pump relay is located in the driver door jam fuse panel in the dash. Their are 2 relays part number "MR538851" stock manufactured by omron, their is 5 fuses in their they are the bottom 2 with one gap in between them. They start on the bottom row towards the fron by the engine compartment. Unfortnatly this was not my particular problem so I will be doing the fuel pump now. The fuse I believe was a 15amp under the hood in the distribution box, Unfortnately the fuse cover in the dash does not show the location of the fuel pump relay switches.

Have a 2005 freestar that wont crank unless you prime the throttle body with starting fluid then it runs fine until you shut it off then you have to prime all over again. new fuel pump and new pcm

I guess you mean it cranks good but won't start? Cranking is starter motor cranking the engine. Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Did you use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off? You could try cycling the key on and off several times before you crank it, see if it helps? Another thought is to do a voltage drop test on some of the fuel components, fuel pump--fuel injectors. Engine cranking the systems get battery voltage. Engine running the systems get generator voltage, the gen voltage can be several volts higher than battery. Just a thought.

2001 chevy blazer Lt 2w Drive 4.3 No Start Condition

Make sure the battery has a full charge.

Are you missing anything besides fuel? Engine cranking visually check for spark at the spark plugs. Also, check for fuel injector pulse. If your missing everything, check for an rpm signal.

With the spider fuel system, start-up fuel pressure can be critical, around 60--66 psi. At the fuel pump connector, engine cranking, gray wire is voltage, black is ground. If good voltage and ground with no fuel pump action, have to suspect the fuel pump.

Start and stalls imediately

I would say ballast resistor, this is a resistor used to reduce power at the coil from 13.8 volt down to usually 9 volt. this allows an engine to have extra voltage for starting and run on the lower voltage. ballast resister faulty it runs out of spark when you disengage the starter

You already took #1 off the list.
The national auto parts chains (AutoZone, Pep Boys, and Advance Auto Parts) will hook up a
diagnostic tool to your car to perform a Charging System diagnosis for free - its an easy
way to exonerate & differentially diagnose your Alternator/Battery/Voltage Regulator.

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Battery Battery Discharged or Faulty.
2 Inspect Battery Cable Corroded, Broken, Shorted or Poorly Connected Battery Cable.
3 Inspect Fuel Filter Clogged or Dirty Fuel Filter.
4 Inspect Distributor Cap Distributor Cap Cracked or Burned contacts.
5 Inspect Coil - Ignition Faulty Ignition Coil.
6 Inspect Wireset Worn, Damaged or Faulty Spark Plug Wire(s).
7 Inspect Spark Plug Incorrectly Gapped or Fouled Spark Plug(s).

1984 diesel silverado 6.2. Engine turns over, won't start?

Please check the fuel, fuel filter and the fuel pressure at the pump. If this is low then you will need to calibrate the pump. Also check the heaters and the injectors, if they have not been replaced for a long time you can check the injectors for blocks.

#1 NEED TO VERIFY SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS # 2 CK FUEL PRESSURE AT SCHRADER VALVE ON FUEL RAIL ,,PRESSURE DEPENDS ON TYPE ENGINE ....IF NO SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS CHECK SPARK FROM COIL WIRE , IF NO SPARK AT COIL ,CHECK VOLTAGE TO IGNITION COIL SHOULD BE 12 VOLTS, IF NO VOLTAGE AT COIL ( KEY ON ) CHECK FUSES THEN IGHITION SWITCH. IF NO FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL PUMP RUNS REPLACE PUMP .. CK VOLTAGE TO FUEL PUMP WHILE CRANKING . CK USING PUMP GROUND WIRE AT THE PUMP CONNECTOR THIS WILL PROVE GROUND ALSO. USE TEST LIGHT TO VERIFY

How to check electrical problems whit the fuel pump

first turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump to come on for 15 sec.this is to prime the system before you crank the engine.no sound, with only a rubber mallet( no metal hammers )hit the bottom of the gas tank,no fuel pump operating go to the fuel pump relay and remove then test for (2) 12 volt power supplies with key on,if ok check ground at relay if okay remove gas from tank and drop gas tank to check for voltage at pump.replace pump if 12 volts is present.
