I have a squeal at the end of a turn of the wheel an the fluid smells little burnt . does the pump need to be replaced

check fluid in power steering pump/pump may be bad ----check all the pulleys and bearings may be binding,seized or burnt causing belt squeal

If the fluid level is again low, you are losing it; if not, the level sensor is likely bad. Lost fluid indicates a failed master or slave cylinder at one of the wheels. The squealing you are hearing isn't likely from the brakes but from a belt that needs replacement or at least tightened; the fact that is squeals when starting and in turns, indicates that the steering pump being driven by that belt is slipping a little under the stress of making turns. This often goes away once the engine room is warmed up since the belt rubber gains a little grip when warm which stops the squealing.

fix the tensioner and replace belt if need be and find out. if its not that doing it, then you may have air in system. the pump itself may be bad. good-day !!

This is the steering rack. If it's not leaking fluid out of the bellows more than likely the fluid needs to be changed.
This can be done by removing the 2 lines from the pump that attach to the rack draining the fluid, then reconnect the lines and refill with fresh power steering fluid.
When draining make sure to take the cap/dipstick off of the pump.

check the power steering pump pull the cap of and smell the fluid if it smell very burnt then you may have to replace it,if this seems ok the jack the vehicle up and support the front end on jack stands start the vehicle and see if the wheel turns then if it does then see if you can pinpoint where the noises are coming from it will either be the pump or the steering rack,also check the tie rod ends and related joints for binding or damage

Bring it to a mechanic. One of the pulleys are seizing up and that is causing the squeal and the smell. I would guess that it is the P/S pump but it would need to be inspected.

Hello, from the sounds of it your power steering pump is going bad. Two things to check is one, pull off the cap and smell the fluid to see if it smells burnt. If it does you will need to change the power steering pump. Another thing to check is to make sure the belt is good and snug that runs the pump, the noice could be the belt slipping. You may need to tighten it or change it depending on how it looks. I'd check the belt first as that is the cheaper fix.

Could be two problems. First the power steering; Check the tension of the drive belt for the power steering and the condition of the belt. If that appears to be OK, check the level of the fluid and its condition or apperance compared to new fluid that is recomended by the manufacturer. If that appears OK, it could possibly be the power steering pump it self. Second the clicking; It is most likely a bad CV (constant velocity) axle. Good Luck.
