Around 4-6 degrees before top dead center / BTDC to start, then you can set it for more if you need to smooth out the idle.On my 74 350 i didnt go more than 10-13.idle should be at around 700 rpm's.So if 4-6 makes it to low then advance it till it hits 700 rpm.

Layout of 350 engine , I changed my timing chain and need little help with putting all parts back on right with the right bolts, washers, etc on my 1980 chevy blazer small blocl

You really need the OEM shop manual - good luck finding one, but if you have the engine code, you may get help Googling it. Pros always mark each item they remove so that they know where it goes on reassembly.

I have a chevy 350 4 bolt main with suffix code ce4329 can anyone tell. Me what year, and horespower this engine came with.

I went google and typed in-- 350 chev engine suffix number ce 4329 and found a page chev-camero.com>chevy-camaro
listed is a ceu--1980--350--190 hp
these 4 bolt main blocks were sold here as bedford truck engines ( 5 ton trucks) as they had a slightly longer stroke which gave a better torque rating for heavy loads
They were popular as street engines, because they gave better power bands that could only be got by regrinding the crank to gain more cubic inches( longer stroke ) a 350 engine and adding special head gaskets for the piston protrusion above the block
Along with good cams , the 4 bolt main negated the need for expensive main modification to handle the extra power
anyway go to that site and navigate around and you may find the information you want

I have a SB Chevy engine that I got that was in a S10 now I need to now what the # mean 3970010 is the casting #

It's used on 69' 302 Z/28 4 bolt main
327 truck and industrial
350 from 1969 - 1980
The block can be either 2 or 4 bolt main.
You have to look at suffix letter in front of the block on the pass. side. Behind the alt. There two or three letters. That will tell you the history of the motor.

I have a 1994 chevy k 1500 I puled out the motor and replaced it with a 1980 350 motor that is set up wit a vacum hei distributor, the old wiring is set up for a ecm controlled dist. how do i bypass this...

You only need one ignition hot for this. Look on the coil cover and it will say BAT and TACH above the plugin. Hook to BAT. Make sure your vacuum is hooked to a constant vacuum (manifold runner is best).

When setting the timing on a 1980 chevy 350 are both gear supposed to be TDC at number 1?

Timing mark's on cam and crank should meet, if you did not put distributor out, just set timing gear's as shown, it you did pull it out, stab distributor 180 off, hope this was very helpful.

Settong the timing on a 350 small block.

On that set up the computer mainly sets your timing. It reads the timing off of the crank sensor, cam sensor, it tells the injectors and coil packs what to do.
