Check the fuses as if the brake light fuse is blown it won`t allow the shifter to move out of park.it has a shift interlock system so the gear shift won`t accidentally be moved out of park by mistake.

2005 Hyundai accent gear shift stuck in park after brake failure

Make sure the brake lights are coming on if not the release solenoid that unlocks park gets no power and will not release the shifter from park position. Also check the owner's manual for a possible way to override the solenoid lock.

My truck used to get stuck in park but now its permanently stuck in park and will not shift.

Try gently turning the wheel left or right as you try to shift. Truck starts ok I assume. Also apply brake. Maybe the switch thT tells it the brake is pushed is bad

Stuck in park while truck is still running 1998 Lincoln Navigator

Are your brake lights working?
If not, replace the fuse. Still not working? Replace the brake light switch. (Your brake light switch also releases the lock for the gear shift).
If your brake lights are working, are you hearing a soft "click" at the gear shift when you depress the brake? If not, check the lock solenoid at the gear shift lever.
There is also a slight possibility that your park pin is jammed. If you're parked on a hill, it's likely. Have someone push the car back and forth as you try to take it out of park... JUST DON'T RUN THEM OVER. :)

Gear shift stuck in park

Does the brake lights work? If not check the fuses, and maybe brake light switch at the brake pedal. It can shift if you turn the key on(only enough to un-lock the steering wheel) then shift it to neutral, then start the vehicle, just remember if you shift it back to park it will be stuck again..Dont try driving it if the brake lights do not work, very dangerous for you and other drivers.

Gear shift is stuck on park

Be sure to check ALL fuses. Next check to see brake lights come on when brake pedal is press to check brake light switch. If this doesn't work you may have a mechanical problem inside shifter housing.

Stuck in park no brake lights

Your brake/stop light fuse is probably blown. If you have no power to the brake lights, when you step on the brake pedal, no power will go to the gear shift solenoid, and it will be stuck in park. Check that fuse.

My gear shift is stuck and will not move from park to reverse. I had backed out the car and turned it off. when I went to move the car, my gear shift will not move out of the park position.

do the brake lights work? the system has a lock out that keeps you from moving out of park unless the brake circuit is activated, hence no brake lights no park lock out release, if the brk lights do work u most have a stuck or defective park lock out solenoid.

I cannot get the gear to shift down

check the brake lights, the shifter has a safety feature that will not allow u to shift out of park if your foot is not on the brake and the brake lights are working, if the brake lights are working there is a bypass to get it out of park under a little cover next to the shift handle.
