Need a diagram showing exactly where the water pump is located on a 97 cadillac deville northstar

under steering wheel to left ,if it's the motor running hot don't wait get on it northstar motors are big problems when it comes to keeping motor cool head gaskets ,and ,the water pump is a piece no well made,it's driven off the cam on the drivers side of engine.

their isnt one take the bottom hose off

check all hoses going to water pump and make sure they are not leaking, if hoses are not leaking then pump is going out. need to replace asap, if car has northstar engine DO NOT GET IT HOT average cost to replace head gasket on northstar is $2300.00 plus

you don't, the water pump has pulley built in. (it's located on the driver's side in the rear of the engine in case you mis-understand that it's on the front of the engine )
there's a special tool to remove and install the water pump.
if you have the tool the the job is very easy

Assuming you have the Northstar engine....

The thermostat in the northstar engine is located at the bottom radiator hose (unlike most conventional cooling systems), the hose connects into the housing where you will also find the water pump.
Remove the hose from the housing,then remove the two bolts on the flange,the thermostat can then be pulled out.
Take note of the orientation of the thermostat as you remove it.
Don't forget the new gasket when you install your new stat.

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank(not the cap!),this is the purge line.
With the engine idling,pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank or trace the hose further back until you locate the blockage.

NOt enough info. Where is the water coming from top or bottom? Could be a leak at a seam, could be a loose cap, could be a leaky overflow bottle, could be a loose hose connection and it could be a crack or leaking hose.
