My check light is on in my 2003 Kia Rio. I have a power loss when trying to accelerate, but it's worse when going up hills. My RPMs don't seem to reach anywhere over 3000rpm at any time. This light has come on a few times, but within just a few days it will turn off and the car will run perfectly fine. What could this problem be?

Have the codes read anyway. Turn the key on, do you see a check engine light? We work on auction cars also. To many times I see that the light is not on.
there can be few things...first thing first
is your car missing...if yes then check plugs, any bad wire
- check for dirty fuel injectors (have u ever cleaned fuel tank) if ok then
- if u have easy access to intank fuel pump, replace its filter..
- check for bad TPS... if ok then
- check for bad O2 sensor
you need to check your fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge. But to me it sounds like the spark plug boots . If they crack or split it will cause symptoms just like yours, mostly shaking while under load. Since you already changed the plugs change the boots or wires too.
Take your vehicle to a local parts house that runs code - you can ask them via phone many do now - free -- - then take the codes -take down your vin number - call the dealer and ask 1- about any recalls on the vehicle - they are free if there are any and can save you thousands 2 - ask about the codes you get
my 01 did that and it was the plug wires it bucked real bad
next time it happened it was just sluggish up hills and light would come on. it was the fuel filter it had 255,000 miles on it
