I have a 1988 Olds Cutlass Ciera (2.5L)with engine problems that I cant figure out. Originally the car would start and run for a second or two and shut down. It would die because the injector would stop spraying. Good fuel pressure at the injector. Replaced the computer with one from the junkyard (swapped the chip but it runs the same with both)and now the car starts when the gas is pressed in but the injector only sprays in 1 second pulses every other second. When you let off the gas it dies. Seems like I fixed one problem and now theres another...possibly a bad ECM from the junkyard? I just dont know. Ignition control module tested good also.
I have not checked the cam sensor, not even sure where it is located. Is there an easy way to test the sensor such as simply measuring its resistance? It just seems strange that changing out the ECM would change the problem if that wasnt the problem in the first place.I have not checked the cam sensor, not even sure where it is located. You should have two or three wires that go to the large post on the solenoid, including the 4 gauge wire from the battery. Then one 16 gauge wire to the small post. That wire comes from the key switch. Let me know if you need colors for wires.
Go to N.A.D.A. com and follow the instructions,,,,,,,This is what all car dealers and insurance companys use,,,,,,Dont use bluebook it hypes the price and is not true priceing.
WELL ..THE FINAL PASS ON IT IS 65 FT LBS
YOU WANT TO DO THREE PASSES OF EQUAL INCREMENT'S LEADING TO 65 FT LBS
STARTING FROM THE CENTER TWO BOLTS AND WORKING YOUR WAY OUT IN A CROSS
SO BASICALLY THE FIRST PASS WOULD BE 21 FT LB.THE SECOND PASS WOULD BE ROUGHLY 43 LBS THEN THE FINAL PASS OF 65 FT LBS.
Try taking the car to Autozone or similar business for a free scan of your computer (your car is a pre-OBD2 system and your mechanic may have a scanner that reads only post-'96 autos). The scan will usually only point to problem areas, not specific components. That's where the mechanic comes in with specific tests. Good luck!
check all hoses on the engine that dont have water in them for cracks. you can do this by running it up to tempeature and the ones that are hot have water in them.
