Bad ground under the dash, no doubt. Check all of your chassis ground connections.

don't know if you have had any luck yet.. the radio displays on those older gm cars do just simply fail , I have had 4 in that 96 to 99 time frame and each one just quit suddenly. I believe as crazy as it sounds that the display runs thru the radio. gm did this in all their newer cars in 2000 and up ..they use a data cable that runs thru the radio and feeds half the dash ..

The display is backlit and you most likely need to remove it and have it repaired as the bulb is hard wired to the circuit board

If you found no other cause then the display computer inside the dash cluster display has failed. You will need to remove the cluster and have it re-manufactured at a GM approved repair facility. Call Your dealer and find out where they send there clusters for repair.

This is a very common problem on this model id Buick and is caused by a burned out LCD display module inside the instrument cluster. You will need to remove the cluster unit from the cars dash and send it out to instrument cluster repair shop. Check with your local GM dealer for a shop near you. The cost to repair is about $150.00

Somehow the wrong make and model was posted but it still applied to my 1990 525i. Had a small problem removing the cover but went to my dealer and bought a brakelight circuit switch and installed it.

inside the dash behind the information display ( speed, gas, etc ) you will find wires that are loose..you will have to replace them. i have a 1983 Olds Regency 98 that had the same problem.

Yes you will have to get the Dash Repaired. Possibly Replaced.
