My 1993 dodge ram B250 wagon is showing signs of a bad fuel pump but mechanic says fuel pump is fine. Wants me to buy a new PCM (which we just did a month ago for a previous problem). The van was running okay, slight surges at high way speeds with an occasional stall/die but after letting it cool down for 10-20 minutes it started back up. Now it stalled any time I slowed to a stop and wouldn't start back up for over an hour.

One thing to look for is your gas gauge. if it doesnt read or your wagon constantly stops then i would go with the fuel pump. replace the pump and replace the fuel line any water in that line would be bad.

it's none of the above. dodge doesn't like to do a good job on the ground system. if you beef up the ground system most particularly from the back of the motor to the frame and be sure your making great contact from the battery to the engine and from the engine to the frame your PCM wont go out on you. bad ground creates resistance and will cause the pcm to go out. it's not your fuel pump, pickup coil tank case sensor or iac. tell tale sign of this condition is you have to do a key dance to get it started ( no it's not your ignition) stalls when running down the highway and or will run rough and possibly backfire after it was just idling fine. The PCM is babbling to the engine. Sometimes the iac will cause it to run rough if the end is dirty but what I explained is the usual issue. PCM 300 dollars. I did not return old one for core $70 because a dealership can reprogram the pcm if it's not burned out because of the poor grounding system. Thanks Dodge. ??
check to make sure distributor electrical wires been reconnected to distributor.and check to make sure distributor is receiving 8 volts supply from the pcm.check see if orange wire going to distributor to pcm getting power. because spark plugs not firing could be pcm, coil itself bad or crankshaft sensor bad. i would code scan vechicle before buying new parts ignition.timing off if you did not have distributor in number 1 firing position before removing the timing chain.
Check your fuel pressure, and EGR valve and sensor. Doesnt sound like a spark problem since it starts right back up. You can go to Kragen and check and get a fuel pressure test kit.
