How to do a tune up on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl

Hi there,

The good news is.... very little is required for a tuneup.

Your vehicle is equipped with a PCM/ECM which controls all the engine parameters, based on the signal received from the engine's various sensors etc. The PCM will also control your idle speeds.

So, this means all you need to do is replace things like spark plugs (ensure correct gap and fit when engine is cold); air filters, engine oil and filters.

If your car is not running correctly after your tuneup, then are diagnostic check will need to be done to determine which circuit requires attention.

99 Mitsubishi Galant, engine is over heating. Where is thermostat located?

I have a 4 cyl engine in my galant and the thermostat is found by following the LOWER radiator hose. You will need to remove the battery in order to gain access to the thermostat housing mounting bolts. There is a video on Youtube.com showing the removal and replacement of the thermostat and radiator for a 1999 mitsubishi galant.

2005 misubiche galant 3.8 miss fire on no.4 cyl replaced plugs oil on one plug

you need to replace your valve cover gaskets. There's oil seals under the valve cover gaskets that leak causing oil to get around your plug wires.

2005 gallant with O2 sensor engine light is one...how do I fix it?

have the engine light code scanned, and it'll tell you if it's bank 1 sensor 1, bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 4.

Bank 1 is on the same side as Cylinder 1
Bank 2 is on the opposite side of Cylinder 1

Sensor 1 is located before the catalytic converter.
Sensor 2 is located after the catalytic converter

Oilpressure

I am not 100% familiar with the engine you have. Being a mitsu 4-cylinder, I'm assuming it's the 2.4L (aka 4g64).

I ran into a few problems in the past with the oil sending units on Mitusbishi engines. The oil sending unit(or oil pressure switch) sends the reading to the gauge inside the car. They have one prong and a small wire that goes to them. It's easy for these to get knocked off or damaged. That is the first thing I would check.

If you're not sure where that switch is located, you can check out this diagram (Mitsubishi Engine manual). Look at the diagrams on page 8 or 9(depending on which engine you have). They will show you where the oil pressure switch should be located.

Thank you for your question, and please let me know if I can help with anything else.

stop burning up your engines. cars shouldn't use any oil, it is either being burnt, which is not good, or leaking onto the ground, which means you'll have no problem finding the problem, it is right above the puddle in your driveway
