2005 Astro Van, when I put the vehicle into Park all the doors unlock. I only want the driver door to unlock as a safety precaution. I will manually unlock the other doors if I have passengers. I do not mind all doors locking when I go into Drive but I will not mind if I loose this feature in efforts to correct the problem of all doors unlocking when I go into Park. How can I override what seems to be an automotive thing?

If I turn off this module, would it affect the using of the button on the driver door to control all the locks manually? How about the fob control? If I turn off this module would I be able to use the fob at all?

  • Milford54 Aug 26, 2008

fob is the remote thingy you use to lock/unlock/and in some cases unlock the trunk. It is the name I was told it was called. Perhaps I have misspelled it. Faub, maybe? :-) but I think you know what I mean now.

Thanks for the information, I was afraid that would be the case but I am surprised there isn't a feature to turn this off. As a single person, I am not overly comfortable parking anywhere these days and having all the doors unlock when I park. Might be enough for me to get rid of this van and get something else. As much as I like the vans... this is my 3rd one (the others did not have auto locks).... I might have to get rid of it or get into the habit of pushing the lock button as I put the van into Park.

Thanks again, Doc, appreciate the prompt responses. Have yourself a decent day.

Your 2005 astro has four (4) options for the door locks. Look in your owners manual and it will show you how to select one of the options. It should be on page 2-7.

Hello milford,

i don't think you can eliminate your problem, the door lock feature is being run by a single module and all doors are connected to it in parallel

so i you want that only the driver's side door would unlock as you put it in park, then you would isolate the rest of the doors to the module but will in turn not controll the rest for locking puposes.

you can not have both features. either control one door or controll all doors.

its your choice.

tnx for using fixya.

yes it would because the manual switch at the driver's door is just activating this module.

what is FOB? sorry for the ignorance in initials...

    hello again milford,

im sorry to bother you one more time but can i ask a favor for at least a helpful rate?

these rates affects our standing in this site and it would be greatly appreciated for at least a helpful rate since a tnx 4 trying rate reduces our ranking.

i just thought i was able to help you clear things out regarding your lock issue.

    thank you in advance,

Door lock receiver on a2001 Pontiac Grand am

Do they work with the key fob, do you have one of those? They lock when put into gear an unlock when put into park because the BCM - body control module does that .

Door Lock System Components
The power door lock system consists of the following components:
• Driver door lock switch
• Front Passenger door lock switch
• Body Control Module (BCM)
• Relays: Driver Door Unlock -- on vehicles with RFA, Door Unlock, and Door Lock
• Door Lock fuse 15A
Door Lock System Controls
The power door lock system can be controlled by any of the following:
• A power door lock switch activation
• A keyless entry command -- if equipped with keyless entry

Driver and Passenger Door Lock Operation
When any of the door lock switches is pressed to the lock position, the BCM door lock/unlock signal circuit changes from an idle voltage of ~3.4 volts to 0.0 volts generating a lock command. The BCM then applies battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Relay, which in turn applies battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Actuator lock circuit of all the Door Lock Actuators. Since the Door Lock Actuator unlock circuits are held to ground through the resting Door Unlock Relay(s), the actuators execute the lock command, locking the doors.
The lock function can also be accomplished by the BCM having received a keyless entry door lock command, if the vehicle is equipped with keyless entry.

Driver and Passenger Door Unlock Operation

When any of the door lock switches is pressed to the unlock position, the BCM door lock/unlock signal circuit changes from an idle voltage of ~3.4 volts to ~1.7 volts generating an unlock command. The BCM then applies battery positive voltage to the Door Unlock Relay and the Driver Door Unlock Relay when equipped with keyless entry, the relay(s) in turn apply battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Actuator unlock circuit of all the Door Lock Actuators. Since the Door Lock Actuator lock circuits are held to ground through the resting Door Lock Relay, the actuators execute the unlock command, unlocking the doors.
The unlock function can also be accomplished by the BCM having received a keyless entry door unlock command, if the vehicle is equipped with keyless entry. Keyless entry personalization allows the driver door to be unlocked individually before unlocking the passenger doors. When this feature is active, the BCM will require a repeated unlock command to unlock the passenger doors.

Automatic Door Lock/Unlock
The automatic door lock/unlock function is a Vehicle Personalization feature with the following four programmable modes of operation:
The automatic door lock feature is disabled.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON, and all of the doors Unlock when the vehicle is shifted into Park.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON, and only the driver door Unlocks when the vehicle is shifted into Park.
For information on programming the automatic door locks, refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Power Windows and Power Locks not working.

The power windows an power locks are controlled by a module , DDM - driver door module . As far as the locks locking when you put the vehicle into reverse an unlocking when you put the vehicle into park , that's how there are suppose to work , automatic lock an unlock feature . When you put the vehicle into any gear from park the locks should lock . Did she hit window lockout function ?

The power door lock system consists of the following components:
• The driver door module (DDM)
• The passenger door module (PDM)
• The body control module (BCM)
• The driver information center (DIC)
• The rear door lock switch
• The door lock relay
• The door unlock relay
• The liftgate lock relay--utility vehicles with liftgate only
• The reversible door lock actuators in each of the doors and liftgate
• LOCKS 20A fuse (rear lock/unlock relay supply voltage)
• ECC 10A fuse (liftgate lock relay supply voltage .

Programmable Automatic Door Locks
The automatic door lock feature can be programmed to control the door lock system. The automatic door lock feature is factory programmed to have all doors lock and unlock. For detailed instructions on programming the automatic door locks, refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.
When the automatic door lock feature is programmed to control the door lock system, the driver door module (DDM), passenger door module (PDM) and body control module (BCM) will lock the vehicle doors if the following inputs are true:
• Ignition 1 input is active.
• All door jamb switch inputs are inactive.
• Cargo door or liftgate/liftglass ajar inputs are inactive.
• Transmission is shifted out of park.
This automatic door lock function will only occur once per ignition cycle unless, a door jamb switch input changes state to active and back to inactive. Then the DDM, PDM and BCM will lock all doors again.
Once the automatic door lock feature has locked the doors, the BCM will then unlock all the doors when the transmission is shifted into park.
Driver, Passenger and Cargo Door Lock System Operation
The front power door lock switches are integral components of the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM). The switches are two position normally open rocker switches. When placed in either the lock or unlock positions, the switches provide a direct input to the DDM or PDM. The DDM or PDM monitors these inputs and sends a Class 2 message indicating a change in the switch's respective position. Modules which activate the power door lock motors receive the Class 2 message and activate the motor in the appropriate direction to lock or unlock the vehicle's doors and liftgate. The rear door lock switch provides a lock and unlock signal to the body control module (BCM). The BCM upon receipt of a lock or unlock signal will control the rear door lock relays and also send a Class 2 message to the DDM and PDM to perform the appropriate function.
The modules which activate the power lock motors are:
• The DDM (driver door lock actuator).
• The PDM (passenger front door lock actuator).
• The BCM (both rear door lock actuators and cargo door/liftgate).
The DDM and PDM are directly connected to the respective door lock actuator through the door lock motor lock and unlock circuits. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received, the module will supply battery voltage to one side of the actuator and ground the other causing the doors to lock or unlock.
The rear passenger and cargo doors differ slightly in that they use lock and unlock relays. The relays supply and coil sides receive a constant voltage through the battery voltage supply circuit. The normally closed contacts are connected to ground and the control side is connected to the BCM. Once a door lock or unlock request has been received by the BCM, the BCM will ground the control side of the appropriate relay. This energizes the relay and allows voltage to be applied to either the door lock motor lock or unlock circuits. since the other side of the door lock actuator is connected to the normally closed contacts of the opposing relay to ground, the doors lock or unlock.

Hi, I have a 2007 Accord. When I shift into Drive, my buttons autolocks. How to I get them to UNlock when I shift into Park or shut the engine ?

Typically on autolock cars, when you pull the door handle to open it opens without having to unlock it. The auto lock is a safety feature. Some cars will auto-unlock when you stop, but most wont, you have to hit the unlock button. If yours doesn't auto unlock, the only way to change it would to be to install a switch somewhere on the shift mechanism, it would take a while to do.

My 2002 chevy astro van power door locks are not working. Only the drivers side door will open with the keyless entry. Pushing the unlock button inside the van still won't release the other locks. What can...

i can help , kinda, i had trouble with my astro van door lock in the back , it is not connected to the electric door locks , turns out the thing was broke inside, i had to pry off the inside panel and reach inside the door itself to unlock it, this can be done without damaging the panel or trim but you have to unscrew some parts, and work it loose very gently, on the rest of it, well i have been having trouble with the door locks on my astro, i think its just a weakness in design on these guys

Cannot electrically operate door locks 2002 Astro Van

Is there B+ voltage to the switch ? Check for broken wires inside the rubber boot from the body to the door .

I did check switches on doors and found good continuity. ??? Ohm test or voltage
Is there B+ voltage on the orange wire at the drivers door switch ? There are two relays one locks the other unlocks . The Cig LTR fuse supplys B+ voltage to the door switches ,not the actuators . PWR ACCY circuit breaker powers the actuators through the lock / unlock relays ! Check out wiring diagram here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html

Power door locks won't work

You need to have someone or yoursef check the body control module with a compatible scan tool. Thats where the problem you are having resides. It may need a software update or replacement. You can also disconnect the battery for a few minutes, that will cause the BCM to reset and may fix it.
