Does your glow plug light on instrument panel come on when you turn the key? I'm assuming the car won't start? If no GP light on instrument panel then it sounds like a Relay 109 problem. It's the main power relay. It's a grey or black 1" square relay located under the dash on the driver's side. Give it a smack with a screwdriver or something. You might be able to knock it back into whack. Seriously. www.tdiclub.com - loaded with tdi info
unless there is a ESP button (some cars have this feature, yours does not) no u can't turn it off. Have the system scanned by the dealer for trouble codes to help isolate the problem
I had the same symptoms and found I had suffered from turbo failure and the final cost at the dealer was $3500, last VW I will ever own. I hope this isn't your trouble too, good luck
Guys, what you are experiencing is the car built warning system. When your engine light blinks it indicates a Major Problem has occurred or is occurring in the engine. When this occurs the cars goes into a "safe," mode which means all power is cut by at least half in an effort to save the car from more major damage. You can take your VW to any large chain autoparts store (autozone, advance, etc) a lot of them are offering a free engine diagnosis. Do this if possible to see where the problems maybe coming from and ways to fix them.
sounds like an electrical short or malfunction. this is a dealer only issue that VW knows best to solve. Check with your dealer to see if any recalls are on your vehicle and take it to them for repairs. Most local shops don't know enough about VW's to work on them accurately. I know this from experience of owning one myself years ago. Trust NO ONE BUT THE DEALER WITH YOUR VW.
