PCM / ECU is located in front of the center console. Remove center console: Remove plastic retaining plugs on each side of front of console use a very small screwdriverto lift the center plug. Move front seats all the way forwarding and remove two back screws on the back part of the console. Lift up the front end of the rear part of console and remove two screws that hold down the front part of console, rear of shifter. Before you can remove the front part of the console the gear shifter must be moved from out of park position, if your car is an automatic. Note: If the battery is disconnected you will need to use the emergency access portin the top of the console. Remove a small cover plug and insert a small screwdriver or ink peninto the hold to release the shift lever out of park. With the shift lever out of the way the console can be removed.
This module is located behind the interior side trim panel, LH side behind the front seat, below the rear LH side glass. AKA B Pillar trim panel. Access from inside, probably will require removal of the rear seat bottom and even top of seat to remove the panel. it will be the small box in the center of that area once the panel is removed. Good luck!
You have a backup light switch that may have gone bad, You need to go to an auto parts store and see what the part looks like and ask them where the location of the switch is , base on the model and type of vehicle you have,it could be located on the steering collum if your gear selector is on your steering wheel, or by your floor shifter if your gear shifter is on the floor between the front seats..
Use a flat bladed screwdriver or you hands to lift the bottom of the
boot away from the
console. It has small clips that hold it down on the console. They
just pop out. Once the
boot is free all around and if you have the standard shifter, you can
then pull the
shifter off. The amount of force may vary depending on your car. Some
have found it very
easy to remove, other have found it more difficult. If it is difficult
to remove, sit in
the passengers seat, put the shifter in reverse and using the floor
for leverage, pull on
the shifter while pressing into the floor with your feet. I should
come off. If not, try
applying some heat to the neck of the shifter just below the knob,
being careful not to
damage the leather, and try again. If you have a shifter other than
the base shifter, you
will need to use a T30 Torx screwdriver to loosen a screw under the
boot in the front of
the shaft of the shifter just below the knob.
It sounds like the part that the shifter fits into on the shift rail is sliding on the rail and not moving it. If there is no access cover in the floorpan (I don't ever remember seeing one), you would need to cut the floor open and fabricate a cover, or remove the transmission in order to remove top cover on unit to get to it. If you find anything broken, you need to find anything rolling around in there or it can and will find it's way to the nearest gear set and start breaking expensive things.
HIYA!
All Equinoxes has yellow coloured wire harness to identify this as a air-bag system.
This yellow coloured wire 'system network' has connections in some areas...one is located at the front passenger's floor area close to the door (right-side corner area, just remove screw or clip and plastic trim part to gain access to see yellow wire there-it has socket plug connected with red clip-string to secure it) and another yellow wire is found between the front seats-you need to remove armrest, center console area and possible remove the front passenger seat to see yellow wire connect to black device underneath carpet in the middle.
Check to ensure the yellow wire sockets are plugged in properly, and not accidently cut or pulled off during your underseat repair.
In case your Equinox has roof side air-bag option, the yellow wire/sensor are located below the front seatbelt device inside the lower pillar frame area. (it's between the doors)
Hope this help you solve your repair task.
Worked beautifully. Thanks!
