REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Belt -2.0L SPI
Removal
- Relieve the drive belt (8620) tension.
- Use a (A) ratchet or breaker bar inserted in the square hole in the drive belt tensioner flange.
- Rotate the (B) drive belt tensioner (6B209) in a clockwise motion to release belt tension.
- Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .
- Remove the engine splash shield.
- Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive belt routing pulley (6C348) and then the remaining accessory pulleys.
Installation
- Position the drive belt over the accessory pulleys. Raise and support the vehicle if necessary; refer to Section 100-02 .
- Install the engine splash shield.
- Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion.
- Slip the drive belt under the belt idler pulley (8678) and release the tool. Remove the tool from the drive belt tensioner.

Belt -2.0L Zetec
Removal
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist; refer to Section 100-02 .
- Use a 13 mm wrench to rotate the drive belt tensioner (6B209) in a clockwise motion.
- Remove the drive belt (8620).
Installation
- Position the drive belt on all the pulleys and the drive belt tensioner.

Accessory Drive Belt
- Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion.
- Install the drive belt and gently release the drive belt tensioner.
- Run the engine for several minutes to seat the belt into the pulley grooves.
