Electrical Problem!!! Electrical Problem- Everytime my 1997 Dodge intrepid gets hot from driving for long periods of time or when it gets warm in the summer on hot days, my air bag light comes on and my automatic windows will not roll up or down and my heater does not work. However, if I jiggle the ignition key a little bit then the heater turns on, the windows work and the airbag light goes off- sometimes for minutes other times for seconds. Any idea what it could be that needs replacing? I have the same problem; airbag light comes on, the windows and fan doesn't work. I have not yet done anything with this. Has anyone tried the suggested fix?

Try changing your ignition switch or checking the wiring to it.

Hi there,

If you're willing, we can try checking your computer for trouble codes - this will help identify any electrical issues.

Note: there's a 50/50 chance this procedure will work (as this does work on the 1997 model):

- With gear in Neutral, start engine and rev the car to 2,500 rpm, then 'gradually' reduce revs down to idle speed.
- with park brake secure, slowly cycle the gear lever through each position (down to 1st, then back up, ending in Park)
- turn Airconditioning ON, then OFF - turn engine OFF - Within 5 seconds, perform the following Ignition Key sequence (without starting): ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON (if done correctly, your ODOMETER should display a series of 4-digit codes). Please reply back once you have your codes..... Cheers,

The Intrepid doesn't have a vacuum line. It uses a electric motor called a "blend door actuator". It's located on the underside of the heater box near the center of the car.

Hi,
put your hand on the heater hoses going into the cabin. Carefully. they should both be hot. If so, you have decent circulation. Does your car have a temperature gauge? When this happens, is the temp normal? Is the check engine light on? You may have a failing thermostat. Sticking open at times.

While driving 1997 intrepid, the instrument panel

I just experienced this problem. I called my mechanic and he knew what it was because it happened to his wife's Intrepid.

The solder connections on the back of the dash crack allowing it to work at times due to temperture variations. All he did was remove the cluster and re-solder it and replace it. It now works perfectly. He charged me $100. Cheaper than a new cluster!

1997 dodge intrepid running hot!

check first if you are loosing water or cooling fluids on your radiator. There may be a leak or the radiator cap may no longer prevent the steam from escaping. check the radiator fans if they are turning. You can check the fan if it is working by removing the temp sensor at the lower radiator hose. The fan should turn on by then.
