Is it only the gauges or the all the instruments and heater controls? The first place I'd look at will be the dimmer switch. Normally the instrument lighting shares the same circuit as the parking/valet lights.
Possibly crawl under car and dissconnect the shifter and manually move the selector on the trans out of Park Position. Normally the locking feature is in the steering column.. which you can also take apart to release this feature.
if u cant select a gear such as go in reverse or into drive when moving selector from park than place into park and look under vehicle attached to the transmission on the drivers side is the selector cable on a lot of 99s this gets rusty and pops off or breaks if popped off spray with a lube to free up the clip and pop back on may have to replace it if to damaged --if cable is fine than problem will be an internal and usually pops a check engine code --check fluid level and smell if smells burnt and looks brownish than fluid bad[filter possible clogged or band-clutch pack bad] needs to be changed as well as filter may get lucky that wont cause internal damage but usually the cable is ur problem good luck
It did, if it is calble controlled then the cable broke from either the gear selector under the dash or on the transmission . 3 places it breaks at 1 the gear selector under the dash or the center console, connection came out or broke 2. on the transmission gear selector area there is a bushing that it connects that breaks off, 3. inside the transmission, the prawl got loose (rare but happens)
look under the car at the gear box for the gear leaver to see if its moving when you try to get another gear,,if it dont move there is a fault in the gear selector not the gear box,,,
sounds like the park pawl switck assembly located in the selector assembly in the car or on the side of the transmission could just be out of adjustment
yes yes yes there s a newtral parking switch in those and you eitho bent or broke it off try puting the car in newtral not newtral you can see just go by feel shift the car into l1 try it then l2 try it
then d try it heck even try reverse and newtral
failing that you need a hays manual and a lot of time to crall arround eithor under your dash or hood depending what the book says
happy hunting and good luck
btw thats why all cars come with a parking or hand break dont be afraid to use it b4 you put your car in park it will save you a lot of problems in your tranny like bent parking pins from some moron bumping your car or just a hill or incline.
