The whine is probably a bad bearing in the alternator or a idler pulley you can take off belt and crank up for a few seconds to see if noise goes away.if it does then it is in one of the pulleys i have seen a lot of these alternators make noise. your oil pressure will go up some when you rev up

Has 358000 miles, just had leaks repaired. Twice since my oil pressure gauge reads no pressure but not all the time? Why

1. Oil Pressure Gauge Not Working You will notice this happens when your oil pressure gauge is not reading, whether the engine is turned off, idle or running. Try to step on the gas to rev up the engine. If the oil pressure gauge still doesn't change its reading, your gauge is busted. 3. Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Too High Another common oil pressure gauge problem is when your oil pressure gauge is reading too high when your engine is idle or when it's turned off. Rep

Oil Pressure Gauge not working on my 2005 Yukon XL

Those gauges are electric now, check to see if the wire is on good. The sending unit can fail, cheap and easy once you find it, but requires a special socket, get that at the same time.

Yes, most likely it is a defective oil pressure sending unit. However, oil pressure is something you do not want to take chances with. Have it checked with a manual gauge to determine the problem as soon as possible to avoid possible major engine failure. I hope this helps.
