I have a 1989 lincoln town car which hunts for an idle and then dies can u help me fix this?

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak that needs fixed.

Open the glovebox and look behind it, I believe just to the left

check for a vacuum leak by the rear of the engine

you need to have the freon level or pressure checked first

replace iac valve and replace air filter

check your idle air control valve, when you turn the a/c on the idle air should increase to help keep engine stay idle.

if you sqirt a little gas or starting fluid in tthe air intake and it starts for a few seconds then the igjition is probably ok since it was stored so long you could have lots of water int the gas tank or bad gas... you could have a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump . you can have a pressure/volume test done on the fuel pump.. that will also test the fuse and fuel filter .. wow only 54k miles ..

check your TPS sensor
throttle position sensor

YOU HAVE A FAILTY RELAY AND SWITCH IN THE CAR

sounds like very dirty throttle body and /or defective idle air control valve
