I just parked my 2001 PT Cruiser to go in gas station. When my 3 year old and I cam back and aatmpted to leave, the ignition was locked and the key wouldn't turn. I also am unable to get the steering wheel to move much. I'm a single mother and can't afford to take my vehicle in to get fixed but I also can't afford not to have a vehicle, Please help.

    I can offer a suggestion, and leave this open for someone else who might have the same problem, but it sounds like the steering wheel is locking the ignition, turn the wheel a hair left or right while turning the key. Hope this helps.

Grasp the steering wheel and firmly attempt to turn it back and forth while simultaneously turning your ignition key back and forth.
To prevent this from happening again, straighten your wheels before you shut off the ignition.

Faulty sensor. See if it starts in neutral, if you have success the park position on your shifter may have worn out. If not the sending switch is likely worn out.

Most likely the alternator is bad. Best way for you to check is start it up, then pull the negative cable off the battery. If it dies the alternator is dead. As far as it draining when parked, I have replace a lot of the ignition lock set and keys because you can put it in the accessory position(All the way back) and pull the key out. Leaving on things like the radio.

yes there is you need to have the code removed at a garage most insurance companies cover this so ask them. if not you will have to pay for this to be done. but remember he still will be able to get in the car with the key. so also ask if you cover covers change in locks

If you don't have the Panic button then sorry, you can't program yourself, the dealer will have to program it to the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) module in the vehicle, using their DRB scan tool.

hotwiring will not unlock your ignition which also controls your steering lock perhaps you can call the dealership and have the courier a key will cost you more but it may still be better for you they will ask you for vin number and perhaps proof of ownership it cannot hurt to call and ask

It's possible the tumblers have fallen in your ignition. I had a similar incident with a Focus I owned. Everything locked and I couldn't get the key to turn at all. They had to tow the car to the dealership and replace the tumblers.
