Ac is blowing hot air. The A/C switch on the dash board will not stay pushed in. It pops out and blows hot air. But if pressed in and held down it will blow cold air. Why will the button not stay pushed in?

This sounds like a blend door or actuator problem. Testing this is a pain and the repair may envolve removing the dash board and center console. I strongly recommend taking the vehicle to a repair shop. This one is beyond the DIYer especially if your pressed for time.
Your valve that shuts off the hot water to your heater core is not closing.Your AC is running but it is trying to cool down 200Deg. air.May be a issue with the heater/AC contol in the dash or the mixing valve stuck open.
you going to have to tear the dash apart (ac control panel) to see why your switch is not working. The control valve unit works on vacum systems and you need to find out where is leaking or the hoses is old and broke off. If your ac compessor still working and blowing cold air but does not adjust the temperature, it will be in the control valve. Is very easy to fix if you locate the leaks or a bad valves. hope that help some.
On most cars when you push a button or slide a lever to change your choice of location where you want the air to blow out louvers move inside the dash to redirect the air to your chosen location. When you switch from heat to AC other louvers move. These louvers are often powered by vacuum lines running from the engine. If one of these louvers is stuck or if you have a vacuum leak in one of the lines it may be causing your problem.
It sounds like you have a blend air door stuck. This is in the housing of the heater a/c blower unit under the passenger side of the dash. There is a motor on the top of the housing that could possibly be stuck or on working.
common problem, check under dash by the gas pedal if control arms are muving went selecting from ac to heat cuz this it is the control for the vents to go from ac to heat and to defrost.
