"Restricted Performance" message and rough idling

Yesterday is was sitting at a stop light and suddenly the engine began to rough idle. It doesn't stall, but the warning message simply indicates that there is restricted performance. I'm thinking that with 68k miles, it may simply be a clogged fuel filter. I purchased the car about a year ago and have had very little problems, but am not sure when the fuel filter was last replaced.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I bought my 02 S type about 6 months ago. I haven't had any problems until 2 days ago when I stopped for petrol and noticed that the engine warning light had come on and there was a warning message saying "restricted performance". The car doesn't feel any different from the point of view of performance and there were no "idling" problems. When I stopped for petrol, the "mileage range" indicator read around 70 miles. Any ideas please ?

Idle good when cold, hotter it gets the worst it idles especially when sitting at stop lights

simple test for a vacuum brake booster
star and run the engine at idle without applying the foot brake
if it gets worse when the foot brake is applied , it is a vacuum leak in the booster ( replace the booster )
otherwise check for failed vacuum hoses including under dash control lines , vacuum leak at the manifold or EGR unit

Honda accord ex 2001 check engine light suddenly came on, car started to idle roughly

If it's running rough, chances are that it's misfiring. If the Check Engine light is flashing/blinking, it is definitely misfiring.
If that's the case, drive it as little as possible... Or straight to the mechanic because the more you drive it while it's misfiring, the higher the chance is of you ruining your catalytic converter.

2001 sable..while idling i smelled rubber burning, then a loud hummm from the upper right hand side of the engine (as you sit behind the wheel) and then smoke only from that area..noticed some...

It sounds like you may have a problem belt or some kind of a problem with something turns on the belt Ican;t say for sure with seeing it but thats what i would look at first see if it looks melted or other wise distorted do this when engine is off

Rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.

2001 Jaguar XJ8 Idles rough while sitting

o2 sensors often cause a rough idle at stand still. Previously my xj8 had crank case ventilation (pvc valve essentially) issues that caused the check engine w/ restricted performance. I noticed a severe drop in gas mileage as well. Jaguar dealer fixed my problems in a few hours and it was surprisingly cheap. Its worth taking it to advanced or auto zone to see what the computer says. Then decide if you want to shell out for a dealer fix or if you can tackle it yourself. BTW, just to justify myself this is my third jaguar. I have a '94 xj6 with a chevy 350 inside it, previously owned a 95 XJ6 and currently have the xj8. They are wonderful cars if you can put up with their rough times.

Rough idling and poor fuel economy on 92ford f-150

This whole problem is most likey due to a sludged up intake and idle speed control valve, do the following procedure and it should take care of the problems, also run a couple of cans of LUCUS brand fuel injector cleaner through, I know u will see it is more expensive than other brands, but the thing is it works!
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
