Hello: The idle is controlled by the electronic throttle actuator. If the check engine light is NOT on the you may have carbon build up in the throttle body. If it idles to slow and/or stalls when coming to a stop the you have carbon build up. Get a can of carburetor cleaner, remove tube going to the throttle body, get a soft cotton rag, spray carburetor cleaner on it, open the throttle plate by hand and clean the inside of the throttle body and the throttle plate. When done put back together, turn key on for10 seconds and off for 10. seconds. That should correct the problem if it idles to slow. Do not spray cleaner straight into the throttle body, you could blow up the engine.

Why does my 2001 Chevy suburban 6.0L idle rough at startup with AC on?

when the A/C is on there is a solenoid that speeds up the engine for the required load of the compressor. You probably have a bad solenoid or miss adjusted solenoid

2001 chevy suburban. I hear a humming noise from the engine. Engine ticks while idle for after a few minutes. Ticking goes away when I accelerate. There is a strong vibration when I accelerate in drive but...

Ticking sounds like a dry lifter, when was the last time you changed the oil and filter? Humming sounds like you need a tire rotation because of uneven tire wear.

2001 chevy suburban, idles rough, check engine light flashes ,after truck warm up light go off and stop idling rough

Get a computer scan for trouble codes to see if that points you towards the problem. Possibly an engine sensor is not working right till it is warmed up. You might also check the idle air control for proper operation when cold.

My 2001 chevy suburban when it is cold and you start it the idle will go to about two grand then will start running rough and die what could cause this issue?

Generally a high idle like that is caused by a vacuum leak. Start checking your vacuum lines and your intake manifold for holes, cracks, or tears. If you can't see any, then get a can of ether, and with the engine running, spray all around where the intake meets the engine block, and all around your vacuum hoses under the hood. If the idle suddenly dips or rises, you have found your leak. Most of the time, it is just a cracked rubber line, or an intake gasket. If there is no leak found, your Idle Air Control valve may be sticking, that is normally located on the side of the intake where the throttle plate is located. Remove the 2 bolts holding it in and see if the valve and chamber are full of carbon. IACs are pretty cheap parts to replace. Let me know what you find and i'll try to hlpe you further. Good Luck

I would like to know the location of the Idle Control Valve for the 1996 Saturn SL1

there are to eletrical components next to one another. The throttle position sensor and the idle control vavle. They are right where the air supply housing goes into the metal part of the air intake system. Right at the firewall the air intake line, a big rubber hose, attaches to the metal trhottle body. The bottom of the two is the idle control valve. It has an oblong electrical connection and uses a small "torgues" type male wrench to get the two screws out. Torgues is the star shaped screw, rather than a hex head of phillips head type screw.

I have a 2001 chevy suburban and it is idoling way too high. Once I put it in drive it goes back down. Sometimes when I am driving, it does not want to shift either.

sounds like you have 2 different issues on this one. the high idle concern..i have repaired many of these with the same concern. check for vacuum leaks first, if all is ok, then check the idle air control (iac) on the side of the throttle body. replacing the iac motor 99.9 percent always fixes this concern

How can tell if the fuel pump is about to go out in a 2001 suburban?

when fuel pumps start going out they tend to make a whining noise before startup and while idling, also you might have a lose of power at lower rpms

Fuel or sensor

what year is your suburban? Previous model did not have ECM software to cope with carbon build-up in the throttle body intake. First car will idle rough, then will stall intermittently. Good news is that a rag and a can of carb cleaner will remove the black carbon on both sides of the throttle gate, then car will run smoothly.
Throttle body located on top, front of engine, so very simple to access.
